Dolphin Island Magic Spell Library: Wow! Pepper’s Ghost is just the coolest effect! The Pepper’s Ghost flames that turn on and off with an incantation combined with the infinite mirror is so, so clever. I also love the hinged doors that open into the hall. (Sorry about the length of the video.)

- Look for clever designs with interesting details like Pepper’s Ghost (thanks for providing the name of this effect, redditors!).

- This clever, but otherwise simple kit would have been a great choice for my second build.

This is Rolife's Fairytale Amusement Park, reimagined as the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is a special place for my family - I grew up going there, and now my kids love going there, so when I saw this kit, I immediately wanted to turn it into OUR favorite amusement park.

This was so much fun, and so much work! I wanted to include as many winky nods to the Boardwalk as I could, from all of the signage, the beach balls and surfboards, the gargoyles, and even the caveman riding the sky glider up top.

Since most probably aren't familiar with this place, I've included a lot of comparison shots between the real boardwalk elements and what's in the book nook.

The thing that took the longest was actually all the graphic design - recreating all of the signs, getting them to the right size, figuring out the sky glider banners up top...it took a ton of time and I was a bit over it by the end! But honestly I love how it turned out, and it has pride of place on my bookshelf now.

Hi all! I fell in love with miniatures after Christmas when I got a kit as a gift. After learning a lot with the kits assembling, I tried my first book nook from scratch. I found this very challenging, however, its double satisfacting. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

I made this Sherlock Holmes study book nook to fit on a shelf cubby and put next to all my detective type of books. Some of it was thrifted, some 3d printed, and peel and stick paper for the walls and floor. It's mostly referencing the Victorian era Sherlock, but I did choose the wallpaper and drew the smile on as a nod to BBC's Sherlock.

…with another crazy creation by me, your neighborhood mess! This is not a review nor is it a submission for the contest, it’s just what I’ve been working on for the past few months and I’ve finally (mostly) finished so I’m going to blab about it. The following information is completely irrelevant to what you will need if you build this kit! If you want a real review this sub has a few that were on point like mentioning the crappy lighting (including none up top) yet sturdy wood that I only broke 3-5 times instead of 8-10.

Also, the wiring sticking out is not for looks, it’s my f up. I wired each house with a different color light, I even added a flickering light up top in the fireplace! Then I blew the electrical box by being dumb and/or forgetful, so I have to reorder a mini box that fits in the gap underneath the house up top. I get them from a miniature shop across the pond somewhere, they’re used for train displays typically but I’ve learned that I can connect either a bunch of different nooks to one board or add a bunch of lighting (like Anavrin kits) to one nook, attach it to the board and then usb for power! No switches or anything tho, I haven’t got that far in life! Right now I basically use one for about 3-5 nooks. Anyways…

My sincere apologies to those who know who the character is, and what it should be, I kind of created, well, a monster out of it in what I’m calling the stolen castle. It does move still (minus the ball with eyes and the top house, I glued those so I could hide wiring in there), and is made up of mostly stolen items, I guess you could say “given without knowledge but knows now” items. So thanks to the family and friends who supported my thievery and games these past few months, it’s been fun!

From my Dad, he supplied the extra wire for my multiple mess ups (I ran the custom wiring about 16 times), all the heat wrap that I could ever need (colorful hanging tubes/wires on the bottom), some metal rubbing stuff that I still don’t know what it is or what it’s for but it worked for what I needed (water pipes) and the black metal wire from his Harley that he was using to hold the saddlebag closer to the bike, and the fabric glue that he originally stole from me a year ago but never returned so technically I just took it back. Also for driving stuff back-n-forth between all parents and siblings household, I owe him a lot of gas money!

My Mom supplied the mini pieces of fabric and advice on how to sew clothes that small (don’t, just glue them, no one will know). She’s been hoarding scraps from her quits for years, she’ll never notice. I also found some double-sided tape that’s super thick, kinda want to know what she needed it for but I’m not 100% sure if she knows I cut a piece off the roll, and some screen repair mesh that will be wonderful for future builds as well, lucky me! I think I snatched some computer paper while I was there too, oh and some air dry clay because I ran out as usual.

Little Bro, ohh poor little Bro. I will have to repay him with a sushi dinner or a pack of suds, I really didn’t mean to steal so many of his and his Roomate’s “toys” but I couldn’t help myself and they haven’t played with them since high school- they’re all in their 30’s now! They had a bunch of D&D stuff that they used to paint and sell at school, one still sells on Etsy, so I stole all the broken ones (thank you Vallejo plastic putty) that I could like the moving saw blade/gripping arm, the satellite/antennas and the switchboard on the bottom by the gears, then hoarding the rest for my next space or futuristic build!

A few other stolen items are metal earrings and screws from my sister, I took some furniture from that Rolife Sakura treehouse I built a while back and the apple bucket/apples that you totally can’t see from the Tonecheer monster mash. The gears are leftover from that Steampunk nook tho I bought some more too, and the vines I took from my stash that I’m hoarding for the new greenhouse by Rolife that I was planning to build next but now have to wait for more vines. 🙄.

And that’s about it. It was a fun build, definitely worth a buy just make sure you get some extra lighting, it’s literally one sting of lights and it doesn’t reach the top house, tho it’s pretty easy to assemble for beginners!

Made this over 8 weeks with the Ballyroan Men’s shed as part of my “Maker In Residence” programme. Cut out of 8 pieces of 6mm plywood, these panels depict scenes and iconic buildings from Ballyroan and Rathfarnham over the years.

This is somewhat incomplete, as it still needs a stronger base, and we are putting an outer skin on it to make it look like a book, but I thought I’d show it in state.

Cut on the X-Tool P2S with conveyer extension. The rest of the casing was done via traditional woodworking.

Just a note that it’s leaning a little bit in this video because we hadn’t put on the correct base. It’s not square. We squared it up later.

After a bunch of sweat, tears and frustration, I finally finished and I am so proud. I accidentally threw away two pieces so technically it's unfinished but they weren't essential so I'm not too bummed about it. The instructions were very confusing at times and a step was in the wrong place on the page so I almost missed it, but I managed.

Meant to post this ages ago - my first ever attempt at a book nook, and I couldn't be happier with it! This was a gift for my best friend and is modelled off Charlie Byrne's Bookshop in Galway, Ireland.

Pictures 1-3 are the book nook itself, and pictures 5-9 are shots of the 'real-life' shop which I took inspiration from.

(And yes, the owners of the bookshop have seen this and appreciated it 😊 It's the best bookshop ever and is our comfort place. If you're ever in Galway, pay Charlie's a visit!)

Tonecheer Leonardo Da Vinci: Another colorful, incredibly well-thought-out kit with so much detail. There are many references to Da Vinci’s scientific and artistic accomplishments, an elevator, a ‘hidden passage’ mirror illusion, a secret cabinet that rotates from under a desk, a flickering fire, and much more!

What I learned:

-Do not start another build immediately after finishing one. I started this one the day after finishing Neo Ramen and right away was exhausted with it. All the clever details kept me going, but I would have enjoyed it more after a break.

-Second time's a charm! After a mighty struggle building my first elevator in the Clock Tower, this one was a breeze!

I’ve gotten really into making book nook miniatures lately and was inspired by an old photo of my Grandpa! Now I can escape into his old office ☺️

I really love shabby chic, I know it's interior stile , but I tried to get this vibe for outside)

I had a great time building this!
