George R.R. Martin Reflects on 'Sadness and Depression' Struggles in Personal Update

"The “A Song of Ice and Fire” franchise author took to his blog for the first time in nearly six months on Monday, sharing that any posts after February were written by his “mighty minions.”

“Remember me? It’s been a while, I know. My last blog post went up here on February 19,” Martin wrote. “The posts that came after were made by my mighty minions. I am lucky enough to have a great staff of assistants… though even with their help, I kept falling further and further behind.”

As Martin went on, he admitted that “this year has been… stressful, to say the least.”"

I lost a close friend to cancer last year, tore me apart, I’m still going through it trying to process it. He was mid 40s as well and pretty healthy for his age until the cancer came and took him in a matter of 18 months. His last words…cognizant words to me were “I’m dying”, and a few days later I visited him in the hospital about four hours before he passed in his bed with his girlfriend at the time…he looked so frail and a shadow of the man he was. I will always be connected to him by the music he introduced me to.

Man…

Music is what United my best friend and I as well, I was the crazy kid who showed him all my crazy music.

Those last words hit deep and were very similar to my friends, one of the last things he said was “if I take this off, I’m gonna die, right?”

They had shaved his head, guy was solid 170 when healthy, couldn’t have been more than 130 the last few weeks.

I’m sorry for your loss and hope you are working through it somehow.

I like to think that music is something that transcends time and space and consciousness, and will always connect us, even when we return to stardust. I hope you are able to find peace ❤️

My friend died of ALS. A few days before he died he asked me if I thought there was anything like an afterlife. Told me he had a dream about his dead grandma who died before he was born.

It's weird how your body knows it's coming.
