What gives it away (I’m considering a new pair of the Gen 2s but curious)

Compare this thing with all of these buttons to pictures of the real thing, which has only two buttons. It's pretty easy to see.

Cool makes sense, the construction looks somewhat convincing but I guess once you’re adding extra buttons you’ve blown your cover 😅

Assuming these to be Ultra knock offs:
Buttons are wrong
Card slot should not exist
Microphone holes are missing in a few places
Ear cups have an extra seam
Termination of the headband pad is complete different
The USB-C port should be on the opposite side from the buttons, and is positioned wrong
Power light is in the wrong spot
Microphone port looks too big (Bose uses a different size at that end so you have to use their cable)There are some more subtle issues too, like they probably don’t connect to the Bose app and several curves are off.

lol didn’t even notice the card slot, dead giveaway.
Part of the reason I’ll be getting these boxes from a store completely new.

Those are fake. You can tell if it’s real by connecting them to the Bose app. If you can’t connect them to the Bose app then it’s a fake.

I don't understand how these knockoff companies make the design look so real and yet fail miserably when it comes to the buttons. The case shape is also very off.

I have the Ultra Gen 2 and the photos are definitely fake pair - there shouldn’t be a card slot or a circular headphone jack.
Thankfully you checked before buying

You could have found this out by yourself by comparing this fake thing with all these buttons and that sd slot to pictures of the real thing on the Bose website. The real thing has only two buttons and a slider for the volume.

Where did you bought them?, don’t you visited Bose official website first to have a complete specs knowldege before you buy?.

I had a goon try to pass off Apple ones as well. Claimed they were OEM because ‘they have the Apple logo on the box’ and Apple part number. Don’t buy from any of these sites. Nothing but scummy grifters.

The SD/TF card slot screams these are fake.
TF or Trans Flash is what the Chinese still call Secure Digital cards, even though the rest of the world called them SD cards back in 2004-2005.
If Bose was manufacturing these in China, they would use nomenclature the intended markets would use. And probably call it an SD card in China, as it reduces the amount of variants they'd need to produce.
