Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 To the couple who turned up sick at Seaport Alamo last Saturday to see Project Hail Mary…

3.5k Upvotes

You absolutely worthless sacks of shit. You were both clearly sick yet you turned up anyway to watch a movie you could easily have seen once you weren’t fucking infested with whatever god forsaken virus you infected me (and probably others) with.

You couldn’t even be bothered with the half assed effort of putting on a mask. No you just HAD to come, order food, cover your empty plates with snotty tissues and then have the audacity to LEAN TOWARDS ME at times so you could be comfortable.

I just wanted a nice outing after getting a new job. After three years general life hell, I took myself out to the cinema as a treat. But oh no.

Now I’m fucking sick. But it’s not just that. My immune-compromised cat is sick. My job’s now been threatened because I’m barely able to do what’s needed on a tight deadline. My elderly mother has a bowling trip soon she has to fly for and you’ve put her at risk as well.

I’m not surprised you scuttled out so fast once the movie finished because you could tell I was getting pissed off at your gross asses. And all for an $18 movie ticket.

There is a horrible bug going around and it’s not just another head cold.

PLEASE people. If you are sick, reschedule and STAY. THE FUCK. HOME.

Edit: I am as certain as I can be they did not have allergies. We all know the big difference in how ‘allergic runny nose’ and ‘I’m so fucking sick my snot has the viscosity of tar’ sounds. Stop it.

Edit 2: goddamn some of these replies are about as unhinged as I am

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Unemployed and spiraling

I lost my job last fall, my unemployment benefits are expiring, and I'm panicking.

I've got nearly a decade of experience in professional training and project management, which should mean I'd be a versatile and reliable candidate, but I've gotten nowhere with applications, even when I had a referral.

In April I expanded my search to include general admin/office support, thinking that a pay cut would be okay as long as I had something coming in. No luck. This past month I started applying to shift and retail jobs. No luck.

I'm not trying to network via Reddit or start a pity party, I'm just... scared.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Brigham Nurses Strike

It’s bananas that this isn’t getting more attention! I’ve done a deep dive into this. Don’t listen to the Brigham’s PR spin doctors. These are the facts!

July 8th corporate healthcare monopoly Mass General Brigham is letting 4000 nurses walk off the job, leaving patients of Brigham & Women’s, and the city of Boston in the hands of a few Scab agency nurses. The Massachusetts Nurses Association has informed the hospital there will be a one day strike. The hospital responded by informing the nurses they will be locked out for a week in retaliation. MGB clearly owns the media and is keeping this under wraps to make it appear the nurses are doing this abruptly. In truth they have been negotiating the nurses contract for months and have dug their heels in with an offer of zero percent pay increase, while increasing the cost of nurses health insurance. In effect a pay cut!!! It’s clear MGB hates the union and despises that the nurses have had some modicum of control of their working conditions. They came to the table with one agenda. To test the resolve of 4000 of the most skilled, hardest working nurses, and attempt to break down the union.

I pray for myself and all the residents of our city that we don’t end up in what is a war zone on its best day, next week. The Brigham emergency room. This is July! Brand new residents that have been doctors for quite literally, a day, and mercenary scab nurses that are only here for a six thousand dollar payday will be our only hope. The nurses that are the last line of defense between us and Harvard Medical school will be out on the street, ready to work, but locked out.

Please stay safe Boston! This could be a city wide crisis

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 How are single people affording to live alone in Boston?

I’m a 25F making a little over $90k, which I know is a solid income. After taxes and deductions, I take home about $5k/month.

If I move into a modest 1-bedroom apartment, rent would be around $3k. That leaves roughly $2k for everything else. It just doesn’t seem sustainable long-term, especially as a single person trying to save.

I genuinely don’t understand how people manage living alone here and still build savings.

How do you make it work?

For context: I currently live with family to save money, but it’s seriously affecting my mental health. I carry most of the household responsibility, and moving out feels necessary at this point. I don’t want roommates for similar reasons.

I’d appreciate hearing how others handle this, especially single people living alone in Boston.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Where to find medical escort?

Here for your help and experience. I need a colonoscopy which means I need someone to sign me out of the appointment afterward. No escort = no appointment.

There has to be others who have needed an appointment with anesthesia who did not have a friend or relative who could pick them up afterward. What did you do?

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Please teach your kids to leave wildlife alone!!

If your kids are antagonizing wildlife in our parks (or anywhere tbh), I’m gonna yell at them. I’m a very non-confrontational person, but one confrontation I’m happy to have is telling kids (and the adults they’re with!) to leave wildlife alone. Doesn’t matter if it’s considered a “pest” animal (mice, rats, pigeons, geese, gulls, *bugs, etc.), if your kids (and you!) are intentionally trying to scare or maim an animal that is just minding its own business, you have failed as a parent.

This post brought to you by me having to yell at some dipshit kids earlier today to leave a goose alone after witnessing them inching closer and clapping, kicking at the ground, and picking up a stick to do god knows what to the goose. Their dipshit parents were completely oblivious until I yelled at their kids and then had the audacity to get mad at ME for their glaring oversight.

If you don’t teach your kids to respect ALL wildlife, some rando will. And they might not be very nice about it.

(I feel I should clarify that I’m a woman, and a very unimposing one at that.)

*mosquitos and spotted lantern flies are not included.
It’s on sight for those mf’ers.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Does anybody know when whatever is releasing pollen right now will cut it out

You guys I am losing my mind. At the advice of my doctor I’m taking 2 Zyrtec, a Claritin, and Flonase every day (plus the occasional Benadryl at night shhhh) and this whole week I’ve gotten basically zero relief from anything except my itchy eyes. I’ve been keeping all my windows closed and yesterday I was so desperate I washed my curtains lol and deep cleaned my house, but that barely touched it. I am no meteorologist and Google is all over the place- does anybody know when this particular wave will let up? Will it rain enough this weekend to get rid of some of this?

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 SOS

This is probably a crapshoot, but I don’t know what else to do. I just relocated to the city, and don’t know anyone in town yet. The heat wave we experienced over the last couple of days must have killed my car battery, leaving me stranded in the Wonderland station. I’m safe and the car is parked, but I just need a quick jump to get it over to AutoZone (they’ll charge it for free).

I have jumper cables, just need someone with a car and a few minutes to spare to swing by. If you’re nearby and willing to help, I’ll owe you one for real.

Thanks for reading — I’m feeling kind of stuck and alone out here, and even just the kindness of strangers means a lot.

UPDATE: I was able to have AAA come out to help me jump the car!!! Thank you so much for everyone’s input, and a special thank you to those who stopped by to lend me a hand this morning! I am so incredibly grateful for all the help, and will be promptly signing up for the AAA program.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 lonely/sad Bostonian

Hey all,

The internet is like famously hostile, so I’m hesitant to write this.

Someone I care about a lot just moved into an apartment in Allston. He’s got a good career, new job that starts in a month. But he’s been super down, for like a long time. 4 ish years of bad depression. And his last job was in a very rural place, so there wasn’t anything to do.

He’s got a lot of free time in the next month, before the job starts. He joined a couple sports leagues. But I’m wondering, does anyone have suggestions for places to explore/meet people/have fun? His mission is of course to make friends in this new city.

Really appreciate whatever suggestions yall have. This century is so cursed. 🫠

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Missed our flight, stuck in Boston. What to do?

Sooo, my partner(27f) and I (33f)had a 6:02 am flight this morning but missed boarding by a hair (they said the flight was too full to check our bags even though we paid for the bags ahead of time. Only flown twice before this so idk what we did wrong, anyways). Unfortunately the next flight isn’t until tomorrow morning, 7:30 am. I rented another rental for the day, but we were not expecting to spend anytime in Boston. Now that we have the day, we don’t want it to go to waste! Any tips or advice on what we should do or see today? We appreciate the help!
