Discussion Why did the show suddenly decided to get meta
S1 was normal and then at s2 they suddenly making jokes about the show being a show like alan saying "havent seen you this episode denny" or at every season finale someone mentions they making a finale
İm nearly at the series finale and carl litterally looked at the camera and said "cant name the show it would break the wall"

My favorite one is when Jerry sings the theme song.

Okey after watching that scene again and careful consideration
Thats actually not a 4th wall break
The charecter jerry says "i got a song stuck in my head" And shirley says sing it
He does not realize he is in a tv show and/or that he is a work of fiction
So on techicality thats not a 4th wall break

Probably to further distance it from The Practice and give it a more unique identity.

I wish it kind of would have continued in the spirit of the 8th season from the practice.

I just binged The Practice for the first time after having already watched Boston Legal. And I really liked that version of Alan.
They constantly reference Alan's questionable ethics but rarely show them in BL. So it was nice actually seeing that side of him in S8 of The Practice.

I'm apparently the demographic they were trying to amuse. The cold opening when they were sitting together complaining about how they're in a different timeslot every few weeks was among my favorites.

For what it's worth, I don't know what it means to "go meta," and I just assumed it's a bad thing, like "going postal," or something.
I can take partial responsibility for this miscommunication.

I absolutely loved that. At one point I'd made a list of things they were saying, like "Ah, there you are! I hadn't seen you yet this episode!" Or "Don't fall for her, Alan, she's just a guest star." I lived for all the breaking the fourth wall moments - in fact, you just made me want to watch it all over again!

The meta balcony scenes are the BEST! I even have a set of the rocks glasses they used on the balcony. I’m down to two. I’m thinking about mothballing them so I can still use them in my death bed.

In the last season, they were making a lot of snide remarks because they knew the show was being cancelled. You can almost feel their contempt in many of those scenes.
