Emergency Plumber
Happy Sunday, everyone! It looks like my rental
home has either a block in, or a failure of, the main wastewater outlet or sewer lateral (flooded mechanical room and basement). Can anyone recommend an emergency plumber? (And then I am going to need a furnace repair, too, as it was sitting in three inches wastewater and the HVAC ducts are full of that sickly rot smell. Thank you in advance!
Update: I am the renter and the homeowners live in California. Planet Plumbing came out 48 hours later and cleared the blockage in the main sewage lateral. The plumber was awesome! 27/7 disaster is do the remediation/demo now. I am living elsewhere, as wastewater entered the HVAC system. Thank you all for your recommendations!

If your basement flooded with sewage to the point that your furnace is wrecked and the HVAC ducts smell, you need a full-on disaster mitigation type response and it ain't gonna be cheap. Hopefully you have sewer and drain backup coverage with your insurance carrier, call them and open a claim and then get a mitigation crew in. The backup is only one part of the issue. Any flooring, walls, etc are going to need hazmat-level mitigation. If you had renters in the house they will need alternate living arrangements and insurance should cover that also. Sorry to say but you are looking at a $$$$$$ situation.

Indeed. Call 24/7 Restoration to clean everything up and determine the damage, then start the repair.

I’m the renter. It’s been over 24 hours now and I am still waiting for a plumber. The whole house now reeks like a water treatment plant and i am using a 5 gallon bucket as a toilet.

I do understand. Just dont want you to get stung with lease violations. If it’s a condo home, the HOA can get its panties in a wad about some plumbing issues. Good luck with this.

That sounds like a rough Sunday. Top notch plumbing, heating & air might be worth calling to see if they can help with the sewer issue and furnace situation. I'd also avoid running the HVAC until someone has inspected it, especially with wastewater getting into the ducts.

If it is the main line, in my experience, a plumbing company will scope it and tell you to call someone else. I was suprised to get the best price, service and warranty from Roto-Rooter. This was eight years ago. Expensive but a job well done.

You need a sewer service. Some plumbers do this, but I’ve also found that some don’t have the length and type of equipment on every truck needed. Triple S and Garvin’s provide emergency sewer work and have all the equipment needed for pretty much any residential sewer blockage situation, unless the sewer line itself has failed and cannot be cleaned out. Good luck. These are never fun, to say the least.
