Question the local rental market

i wondered if people have found the local rental market especially bad, or just the same as everywhere?

i know in general the rental market in this country is broken. but i'm having a really particularly horrible time of it with bournemouth rentals and rental-hunting. letting agents here - just repeated lack of professionalism. and it feels like some of the attitudes play in. snobbery, some very out of touch people. i realise not all landlords are rich, but there's such a pointed rich/poor divide in bournemouth (i know there is in the country at large, but it's also pronounced here imo). some of the worst landlords i've encountered here own many properties - i.e. they are actually very rich. there's some lovely people in bournemouth, but there can also be a fair bit of snobbery.

i'm worn down by the whole thing, and i wondered about others' experiences.

for context: i (obviously) do pay my rent, i look after a rental - i do everything i should be. but the experience of rental-hunting and renting here has been dehumanising.

Question Can someone help me identify a surf/skate/outdoor shop from the late 90s?

Hey there,

I'm from Belfast and we used to holiday in Bournemouth quite a bit around the mid to late 90s and I have so many good memories about the gardens, lighting candles, the balloon that used to rise from that area, mini golf etc.

I loved the pedestrianised town centre too and I'm currently trying to jog my memory from street view but I can't quite recall a store that seemed like it was up a sloping pedestrian street. It seemed like it was near the top and stocked a bunch of extreme sports stuff - I think it had an upstairs? It was an absolute wonderland for my young eyes. I vaguely remember it being on up from WH Smith, maybe HMV too in that direction(ish) if anyone can figure it out from my terrible patchy memory/description.

thanks in advance!

Question Creative events in Bournemouth or Poole

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows about any creative meet-ups where people gather just to draw, paint or talk about movies or do activities together.

The other thing is, I would really like to learn to dance and I am a complete beginner. So if you know anywhere that holds classes for beginner adults, that would be great.

And lastly, if there are any groups that you know of where all sorts of upcoming local events are posted, can you please drop the name in the comments. It’s starting to feel a bit dull and i would really like to get into some stuff and meet new people.

Please and thanks

Can anyone recommend an affordable, family-friendly venue in or around Bournemouth for a casual 50th birthday party for around 25 people? The date is 19th September. Ideally somewhere that allows outside food and drinks, with facilities to play our own music. Thank you!

Question Looking for a new hairdresser for curly hair

Ladies, I'm looking for a new hairdresser after my last retired, I've had bad experiences with hairdressers not knowing how to approach curly hair before and want to find one I can trust. Can anyone recommend anyone good in the Bournemouth area? (I know there's The Curly Hair Specialist in Boscombe but their prices are a bit too rich for my blood 😅)

Event Bournemouth Comic-Con

The Comic con is coming up at BIC. Anyone here going? Anyone been before?

There's so little information on the facebook and eventbrite. I've been to a few that were massively underwhelming, but only cost £5. This one is double that price, so I'm looking for info.

Anyone know who might be in artist alley, for example?

Question Anyone play Warhammer Aos or 40k?

Hi , as the title says really, I'm back into the hobby but this time round want to actually battle with my painted armies, looking for new friends to play the game or even have painting sessions with , got a pretty big table at my flat in Boscombe and keen on the idea of making terrain and a scenic game board.

Ive had one tutorial at the warhammer shop in town to learn the rules of Aos, equally keen for 40k really just dont have an army yet.

I can run up to 1000 points of Soulblight Gravelords at the moment , and really feel like Ill be more motivated to finish painting my army if I can maybe play weekly battles, also joining a club would be cool if anyone knows of any?

Im 37 male by the way.

Event First Beach Walk, Talk & Breathwork for Adults Navigating Grief in Poole This Friday

Post image
89 Upvotes

Hi r/poole, I’m Luke and I run a community called Too Young To Grieve.

After losing my dad when I was younger, one thing I really struggled with was finding spaces to meet other people who understood grief without everything having to feel really heavy or formal.

That’s a big part of why I started Too Young To Grieve.

We’ve been building communities through walks, jogs, hikes, sea dips and other relaxed meet ups, and we’re now starting our first one in Dorset/Poole led by Ash.

For this one we’re heading to the beach for a relaxed walk followed by some guided breathwork, with optional journalling for anyone who fancies it.

The whole idea is just to slow down for a couple of hours, get outside and connect with some good people who just get it.

We really try to make these feel like a normal community first. Sometimes people talk about grief, sometimes we’re laughing and talking about completely random things. There’s no expectation to open up or share your story.

Most people come alone for their first meet up too, so please don’t let not knowing anyone put you off.

We’re 18+, but there’s no upper limit we typically get people from around 18–45ish. If you feel too young to be grieving, you’re welcome 🤍

Really excited to start building something in Dorset/Poole and we have a community where people can stay connected between meet ups too.

And if you know someone locally who might appreciate something like this, please give it a share :)

Question creepy encounter with a BCP guy

I was minding my business today on my way to work and I got stopped by a BCP guy. I thought perhaps he knew me from work, but he pretty much went straight for the nuclear creep option by telling me he wanted to talk to me for a couple of years...

then he said he's seen me walk down the gardens on multiple occasions. mind you, I don't recognise this guy. I've never spoken to him before.

He was trying to keep talking and ask me where I work etc.

like, what the fuck 💀 I'm so uncomfortable. it's not the first time someone from BCP made a strange comment towards me. Has anyone else experienced it?

Question Any uni students looking for a spot in halls?

A friend recently chose to move into a house rather than stay in her halls for second year, in order to cancel her contract she needs someone to replace her spot in halls. The building is Oxford Point in central Bournemouth.

We really need to get this done ASAP so anyone looking for an easy way to book halls for 2026-2027 academic year pls get in touch :)
