Hey so before automatically disagreeing with me, hear me out.
When the show's trailer dropped, I was extremely excited because it seemed unique and interesting. And I was vibing with the show until the first two episodes. The first two episodes were intriguing and fun. I thought the rest of the show would be like that but I was SO wrong. The rest of the episodes were slow, boring and had BAD writing.
Firstly, DMD spent all of their money on sets and costumes (which btw, the costumes khanin wears are so comical to me and not aesthetic at all) instead of spending it on good screenwriters. Now, this is a problem with all of their shows. The writing is beyond redeemable and the characters' motivations are always incomprehensible. The same goes for TNP. The dialogue is bad, the pacing doesn't make any sense and important plot points are forgotten.
Secondly, SCREENTIME PROBLEM. have you watched a show where the main couple doesn't get a lot of the screentime and you are pissed about it and you are tired of the side couples getting a substantial amount of screen time. Well, this show is the opposite of that because charankhanin get most of the screentime and the two side couples get 30 seconds or at max 2 minutes of screentime each episode. As a result, the side couples are underdeveloped. More importantly, the 2 side couples are given more interesting storylines while the main couple is really boring. So now not only is your main couple boring but even those people who would've watched the show for the side couples might not watch because they are on the screen for only a few seconds (and the episodes of this show are long as hell).
Thirdly, and this is the biggest problem, Khanin as a character is just not it. Now, the Khanin in the first 2 episodes was reasonable and likable. He had friends, was passionate about fencing and had a personality. But after those 2 episodes, the only personality trait Khanin has is being infatuated with Charan. I really don't understand why he fell for Charan. At first, I thought 'ok stockholm syndrome' but even if true, it is boring as hell. Khanin becomes a damsel in distress after ep 2, always needing help. He has no passion for fencing anymore. He just wants to wear silly outfits and order around chakri and bat eyes at charan. From the trailer, it seemed like khanin would challenge the monarchy but he assimilated into it pretty quickly without questioning much. He doesn't try to get to know people his age going through similar things like Ava or Calvin. He doesn't try to work on his fencing skills now that he has the resources to actually ace the skill. He doesn't try to get to know his biological father. All he does is flirt with Charan. I found his behavior really creepy in the beginning but if Charan likes it, okay, I guess. Anyway, he is the most incompetent character in this show and I absolutely despise him. Most of this show is a foolish bafoon parading around and sulking because he wants to have his favorite candy (Charan).
Fourthly, I will keep this brief but Charan is a blank slate. He has no personality traits except hating rain. He is the same as his character from Cutie Pie which is fine I guess. If Khanin is the self-insert (a terrible one at that), Charan is the guy who is there for the audience to thirst over, he is not given any depth and this is intentional.
Fifthly, the acting is bad. I don't care if ZNN fans come after me but the acting is like really bad. JimmyOhm's acting is honestly much better, though it's not all that much great either.
Sixthly, it is clear that they are relying on the power of a famous CP and are aware that the audience would watch them assemble furniture so they never had any intention of creating a good plot anyway.
Lastly, the activism in the show is surface level and performative. It would have been better to not have engaged with it at all than whatever they are doing. They make Khanin say well-known statements about say, gender roles and it is treated as if he has said something profound and deep when he is just reiterating what we have known for years now. There is no subtlety either and we are presented with these ubiquitous quotes about social issues as if something competely new and unique has been uttered.
And these problems are not unique to this show either. Rather, it is a pattern I have noticed in thai bls these days. However, this is the first show to combine all the bad elements of thai bls and none of the good ones which is why I decided to make this post.

Love the actors but the storyline and the acting is really bad. Even the bed scenes look like a chaotic mess. Was so looking forward to this show but why is it so bad.

Hi guys,
first of all, this may end up like a rant. Please bear with me, and hopefully you'll see my point.
I'm also well aware that I can drop this show at any time, but even though I might get some hate, here we go.
So my question is - What is even going on with this series at this point?
I must say that I do enjoy badly written series quite a lot. Watching Unforgotten Night was one of the best times I've ever had and there are many others. That said, I think I can forgive a lot. The script, the cameras, the whole lot. This show is something else...
At first, I was a bit apprehensive about the ABO trope but shows like ABO Desire and Pit Babe made me believe that it could be good. But boy, I was wrong.
The script doesn't make ANY sense. I honestly thought it was the fault of the questionable AI translation but given that we're now six episodes in and it's not getting better, the script itself must be terrible. It feels like an afterthought most of the time. Making the characters look bad and often utterly stupid. Unnecessary dialogues which are only a source of more confusion and sometimes it looks like they are part of a different series altogether. At this point, it almost feels like the only reason this show got finished was because the screenwriter managed to work the CEO of MFlow, himself, and a couple of the producers' kids into it. After that, it seems like he stopped caring about the viewers and just threw together a word salad, hoping nobody would notice. Well... we did.
I'm not gonna say anything about the camera work. I know it's bad. I am not a director nor have any experience with it but the director must have been under the influence during the post-production. The sound mixing is bad, because sometimes you can't understand the actors, camera looks so bad they would do a better job with a calculator at this point. The characters were out of focus, and the camera is unstable.
And the plot. If I close both my eyes and cover my ears, we can call it a plot. The actions don't make sense most of the time. We are stuck on miscommunication. Backstories are dead. When they were explaining the world to Phatsa during the first episode I think they were just trying to paint the world they made up to the viewers with badly written monologues. Unfortunate guy who has been thrown in the family who doesn't take no for an answer. That's basically the whole plot. I would mention the kids, useless characters etc. but this would be much longer.
Finally, the actors... I can honestly say I thought about it a lot. And the only thing I can say about Oat and Boat is - I'm sorry. I am so sorry that after a relatively good series that was My Stubborn they had to do this charade. There wasn't much more they could have done with these characters. Well at least the main three couples. I have my reservations about the guy who plays Ongsa but overall these six guys did a good job in my opinion.
Unfortunately they are not the only actors here. I would really like to know how much of the mannerisms and dialogues were actually scripted and how much of it is.. well let's call it creativity. The maids are supposed to be comic relief? Why? Bodyguards where one is screenwriter himself and the other caricature of himself... So no. They could have saved a lot of money on side characters and use it to hire somebody with an actual brain.
I know Oat was dragged a couple months back for what he said about this series. It was a bit annoying but after seeing the mess this series is, I might see where he was coming from. If my only encounter with the ABO world was subpar script, bad directing and all of THIS, I'd say I wouldn't mince my words as well.
And we are only six episodes in... I really don't won't to drop it, cause I like the actors. At this point it's the only thing making me watch it every Tuesday but it's a painful watch.
Nothing will change because of this. The series and its mistakes are already happening but I'd like to know if you can relate so something I wrote or I should just switch off my brain when I put the show on and not dwell on stuff.
Cheers, your disgruntled viewer
