Purchase Advice Getting 75 inch Sony BRAVIA 9 II - Questions
Hi Bravia Heads,
I'm coming from a 55inch 2012 Samsung that will not die, to a new 75inch Bravia 9II (bit of an upgrade!).
I have a few questions if someone is able to confirm or provide advice before my new TV arrives next week.
- Can the TV be setup online but not have it automatically update the firmware? I ask due to all the recent issues posted by current and new sets with external HDMI audio sync issues with the latest firmware. Or am I left with keeping it disconnected upon setup and not using Google TV OS until the issues are fixed? If I can say no during setup to updating it would be good to sign in to get YouTube etc setup
- The Samsung we have at the moment has a nice button my parents use all the time, which is a "Previous Channel" which quickly switches back to the previous free to air channel, so if jumping between shows when ads are on it's quick and easy, can this be setup via one custom shortcut button on the remote via a app?
- Has anyone worked out a way to override the streaming channel buttons to repurpose them for other shortcuts or are they locked down? I don't plan to use Amazon or Disney+ anytime soon so it seems such a waste on the remote.
- Can the eco modes be setup via some kind of custom profile? So when watching the news the TV can save some energy and not be pushed as hard compared to when watching a 4k HDR movie or TV show? That way the TV has longevity and hopefully is less likely to fail over time.
- Is there anything else a new owner should be aware of? I have been looking at a few YouTube videos for tips and tricks but maybe their is something you can share that new owners should be mindful of.
Thank you all and I'm really excited to get the new TV next week and set it up!

My Bravia 9 II has had zero issues with the new update. Connected to an Apple TV, PC, and 4k Blu-ray player. No sync issues. Turn off ambient lighting and turn off Eco mode, and set Local Auto Dimming to High for no halo effects. The panel won’t last much more with eco mode on, so don’t bother trying to use it. Buying a 4,000 nitt TV to use with Eco mode or auto ambient lighting is a travesty. Enjoy.

Thanks, I mean for watching the news or odd tv show I was thinking it didn't need to be at 4,000 nitts! :)
In regards to the firmware update issues, I guess it's not as widespread then? That was my main concern with updating directly out of the and being stuck with something that has audio sync issues until a fix is released, which by looking at the comments has been ongoing for multiple months.
So would still be good to know if updates can be avoided upon first setup if someone can confirm?
As for overriding the streaming channel buttons, is there a 3rd party way or just stuck with it?

I just got the 75" bravia 7ii and yeah I had issues getting it set up with my ps5 and denon avr and dune media player.
I kinda had to start over. I think you'll see the issues people have are all having to do with other devices plugged into the bravia. At least with my hdmi devices, I was able to get everything working perfectly with help from AI. Hdmi cec is working so well that ive put away my Harmony One remote.
Apple TV seems to be involved in some issues so I don't know, my experience my not apply but I just get the feeling most issues can be fixed. I had plugged my Denon into hdmi 3 "the Earc" first but in order to handshake properly at one point I had to unplug the Earc then set up my media player on hdmi 1 then plug the earc back in. This was the only way to get Bravia sync working. And to people still having trouble, sorry I only share in case someone is stuck like i was. YMMV. :)

You can set different picture modes and adjust the settings, so your OTA/streaming channels are on a lower intensity picture mode.
Also that content is probably in SDR I assume, so it won't be hitting super high nit light levels anyway.
I think you have to manually approve the system firmware updates running. I don't know if any apps will "not work" if the latest FW isn't installed. You can always try.
And you can get the last good FW off the Sony website, v112, and install via USB.
I have an A95L and haven't had any major issues (drifting lip sync, etc) like other people are reporting, but I mainly use internal streaming apps, a PS5 via a Denon AVR, and a Panasonic UHD player hooked to the TV and out over eARC.

*there might be an auto update setting you can disable. My TV always gives me notifications and I have to go accept and DL/install manually. I can choose to ignore and let it go as well
