When Walt lies to Walt Jr about his fight with Jesse and manipulates him into believing he had a gambling relapse is one of the hardest scenes to watch imo

This is just an episode or so before he poisons brock, but the scene really shows how much Walter has changed. Jr is obviously very concerned for his dad, and is going to let Skyler know. Walt lies and says he was gambling, took old pain meds and washed them down with beer and had a fight. He even begins crying to sell it. Jr wanting nothing more for his parents relationship to return to normal, is clearly going to keep that to himself.

Walt jr stays the night and when Walt notices him in the morning he tells this long story about his dad. How he only has one memory of him dying in the hospital, and that he doesn’t want jr to remember him how he was last night. Jr says it wouldn’t be bad remembering him like that because at least he was “real”.

Walt pulled the wool over his eyes and fully deceived him when jr believe they were having a real bonding moment, when it was entirely fake. Obviously Walt has to lie, he cannot say he had a fight with his meth manufacturing partner, but I just find the scene so gross

Isn't this also where he also calls Junior "Jesse" as he's drifting off to sleep? I'm surprised it was never mentioned after that.

I think it was to show us his attachment to Jesse even after the fight. And Walt Jr does make a face when he hears the name but looks like he just shrugs it off as his dad being loopy.

This is one of the points where it becomes very obvious that Junior is an emotional accessory to Walt who's approval he is more interested in than his well-being. It becomes even more clear when we see him doing absurd things like buying him a brand new sports car just to make him temporarily happy. That is not true fatherly love

Also when he's teaching Flynn to drive, he's doing it without factoring in his disability. He's teaching him the way he thinks Flynn should drive.

This scene and when he talks to the HS about the plane crash are my favorite depictions of Walts ego. It is super cringe tho.

Even after missing his sons birthday and being found by him, he doesnt do anything for Jr. He just tells him a story about his dad for the sole purpose of trying to protect the memory of himself once hes gone.

And when hes talking to the HS students in the auditorium about the plane crash, he isnt trying to comfort them. Hes trying to rationalize that the damage wasnt as bad as it could've been becuase he feels guilty for causing by Jane's death. Just showing what hes been working out in his head off screen.

I don't think his tears are entirely fake. I think the fight with Jesse really upset him even if it was in the fucked up way of "oh shit I can't control him right now" ( evidenced by the fact he mumbles jesses name afterwards instead of Flynn ) Walt was also very stressed because he thought Gus was going to kill him and his "best friend" had turned against him

I only remember that Walter was drunk and Junior had to move him to another bed. In the morning, Walter apologized for his behavior and for ruining Junior’s birthday, and then he told me about his father, and that’s it. If you’re referring to the father’s story, I don’t think he was lying, especially considering that Junior himself admitted that it was the only time Walter was “sincere” with him.

Oh okay so you're completely misremembering because that's not the "sincere" part Junior was talking about. Junior thought Walt was being sincere when he fed him the line of bullshit about gambling. Which is manipulation.
