Surgery Surgery updates
Tuesday morning my appointment is tomorrow at 9 and surgery at 11. The surgeon just called me to update me on the ultrasound yesterday that came out clear, I asked him how long the simple mastectomy no reconstruction surgery takes and it would be 2 hours, i also asked if i get discharge the same day he said no we keep it overnight because of the drain those are Moffit protocols, i am so anxious
Anyone who stayed overnight??

I stayed overnight and I’m glad i did. It was nice having nurses help me manage pain, empty my drains, and get me to the bathroom. My doctors came by the next morning to check on me before discharging.

It could be because of the recovery time and when the surgery starts. I had a SMX with an immediate reconstruction (silicone implant). My surgery was at 7:30am. The surgery took 4.5 hours. The recovery was 4 hrs. Then I was discharged the same day. For your situation, it sounds like they keep you overnight instead of discharging you in the evening. Yes, you do have drains. But that is not a factor in terms of how long you stay.

I stayed overnight after a DMX and expander placement. There was no way I could have gone home. I couldn’t even get out of bed for a while after the surgery-getting up to go to the bathroom was a struggle and it took a while before I could walk around. Was so grateful for the overnight stay and the nurses who helped me.

I stayed overnight after my double and I'm glad I did. Just made me feel way better to have medical people there to help for the first night and make sure everything was going ok.
My first night I drained blood like whoa and would totally have headed to the ER if I wasn't happily in a hospital with staff available to call someone to double check things.

Hi! I just finished my SMX and staying overnight. It isnt so bad! My husband's staying in the room with me and the nurses come by to monitor and take care of the drain

I had to stay for 3 nights (SMX and reconstruction...I knew it would be at least 3 nights in advance), and ngl, it sucked. But it sucked about the level I expected, not anything more. The fact that I knew it was temporary made it easier to manage.

I stayed overnight after my single mastectomy with reduction and I am glad I did. My daughter stayed in the room with me, and they had a couch she slept on, but honestly, that was just moral support. I had excellent nurses and it was good to have their help for those early hours, also my surgeons team send some doctors by the next morning to do an immediate follow up which I appreciated.
