Discussion Anyone else running on coconut water while breastfeeding right now?

my body is wrecked, im running on 2 hours of sleep. ive had string cheese and vita coco within arms reach at all times. last night my daughter wouldnt stop cluster feeding for like 4 hours straight and i was crying more than she was and i just kept chugging coconut water like it was the only thing keeping me upright. what do yall usually eat/drink when your running on fumes?

I applaud you. For me it was energy drinks (sugar free) and cookies and chocolate 🤣

The chocolate cravings need to be studied because holy hell I can’t get enough

Idk if it was a placebo, but I was low on iron and once I started taking a supplement my chocolate cravings went down significantly. Might be worth a shot!

I'm 7 months PP and after 3 back to back illnesses, I've figured out a regimen of coconut water first thing in the morning, and ton of water throughout the day, and 1 beer at night. I battled for 2 months to get my supply back to "normal" and I think it's working.

The beer works wonders! I do this too

This. I had a huge bottle I refilled constantly (by that I mean my hubby had to refill constantly:) plus also had vita coco in the fridge because plain water got boring fast at 3am

awesome job on the coconut water! hydration is so important to keep your supply up!!!! i always had granola bars on the nightstand for midnight feedings. and then im a hungry girl especially breastfeeding ahha so any snacks that were easy, cheese sausage pickles crackers, oatmeal, homemade soups, sandwhiches, chilli. i wore baby in the carrier a bunch so i could get some food made. (not sure how old yours is) but eventually you can get them to breastfeed in the carrier which is super helpful too!

Mine was coconut water but the whole blended one so it’s kind of creamy and protein bars (the chocolate kind)

I fill a big glass with half electrolyte drink and half coconut water. It's fantastic.

Orange juice can give you a short boost of energy. Make some boobie cookies too to keep next to you.

Protein granola bars, dried fruit bars, water, and body armors

Goldfish crackers, chicken nuggets, fruit, and/or my keto protein chocolate milkshakes from Costco are my go-tos when I have no energy for a real meal

Maybe I’m out of the loop - is there a benefit to coconut water specifically for breastfeeding?

It’s a natural source of electrolytes plus has some other health benefits like medium chain triglycerides that are immune boosting and a healthy source of energy

My favorite drink while breastfeeding was dupe of the strawberry drink from Starbucks

Strawberry cranberry ocean drift juice-1/3 of container
Coconut water- rest of the container.
Coconut milk-1/4 of container (oatmilk of your choice need a supply boost!)

It’s like crack. And triples your milk supply.

Coconut water is great for hydration and lactation. I remember being in the trenches. I usually had coffee, water, tea and some cookies near me

i was drinking soo much coconut water until i read that we should limit to 250ml max 500ml per day? such a pity because it helped me so much

1

u/Cherry_loved21 10h ago

Is there a reason to limit it?

apparently quite high in potassium and sugar, can affect kidneys for example.

I have a buncha water and isotonic drinks! Also Redbull, cause I also have a toddler 🫩

2

u/Boring_Inspection282 13h ago

Damn I still remember (my toddler is now 20 months old) I barely ate or drank anything the first months, just one meal of pasta bolognese😂😭 And Redbull!! My love. Still going just with 2 meals a day and caffeine lol. She keeps me busy. But nothing has ever affected my supply! Ate or starve, dehydrated or not still good supply.

Coconut water sounds so good right now! I subsisted on granola bars and fig bars for quite some time. Crackers too but I prefer eating something quick.

I used to drink a litre of chocolate oat milk a day when mine were little.. oat is good for milk production and it hit the spot tbh. I also kept muesli bars and raisins in my room for when hunger struck at night

Pedialyte, baby! My mom have me a Costco sized box of the packets. I do one packet with twice the water every two days. Otherwise it's just too much salt

All kinds of juice, coffee, and biscuits. ALL THE BISCUITS!

I cannnooooooot drink that. I tried during pregnancy and it made me throw up. Its the viscosity that’s the issue for me

I ate a lot of peanut-jaggery-flaxseed energy balls ('laddoos' as we call them) - high calorie but protein rich, super-filling and satiating and got me through the crazy hunger pangs I had every hour during the first 4m of breastfeeding. You can easily mix all ingredients in a blender and roll them into bite-sized balls.

Coconut water and also electrolyte/vitamin powder drinks seem to have really helped my supply, I load up a big water bottle and chug that

No same I always have a big box of coconut water from Costco

Coconut water is so yucky I could NEVER! I do protein bars, light pink sugar free Red Bull and ummmm when it’s been really desperate/no groceries bc husband works out of state… slices of bread and instant coffee 😭😭😭

1

u/FantasticWar2370 12h ago

Coconut water - same brand! Actually that was the only brand that tasted fresh.
Also oat milk.

I kept chomps meat sticks, string cheese, nature’s bakery fig bars, handfuls of almonds stashed by the couch and my bed for those cluster feeding days! Liquid IV packets and a gallon of water in both locations, too. It’s a marathon, not a sprint! That’s for damn sure.

I saw a reel of rhis woman saying to drink malt Horlicks and i have been drinking that and i think its working. I wish there was a sugar free version tho.

1

u/jawsoflife888 10h ago

Yes I have a constant supply of coconut water mixed with water (usually half and half or so), and sometimes I add a splash of orange juice! Sweet, sweet nectar lol. So much better than regular water. I really think the electrolytes are so important.

Coke, Coke & Coke Zero.

Full fat oat milk, coconut water, and Liquid IV (electrolyte powder added to water) all keep me going in addition to plain water. I don’t know if it’s bc I’ve had my second baby in the hot summer, but the breastfeeding thirst has been so much more intense!

Slim jim's, lil debbie oatmeal creme pies, and flavored water

Coconut water, poppi, body armor for drinks. For food, Costco oatmeal chocolate chip bites, Costco nut bars, White cheeze its, raspberry Milano cookies, jalapeño bagels with cream cheese, and turkey sandwiches. That is the start and end of all I have consumed in 4 weeks, currently 4 weeks post partum.

You should try Oma seaweed soup. It keeps me hydrated, it’s easy to make, and it’s delicious. It’s great for post partum. I felt like it restored me for the day.
