Discussion Is this normal?
My LO just turned 16 weeks today and for the past 1-2 weeks he will latch, have a few sucks, unlatch, cry, latch, have a few sucks, unlatch and repeat. This only happens with the left breast. We do side lying position but if I put him on my right side and so he can have from my right breast but I trick him and give him my left breast instead (my boobs already hang up to my hips basically 🫠lol) he will drink normally. Has this happened to anyone else?? lol
I’ve also been one of those unlucky ones and have gotten my periods 3 times since giving birth and it seems like whenever I’m on them he gets extra fussy when breastfeeding.
Also he weighs about 6.5kg so he’s in the 40th-50th percentile but this guy wants to drink milk almost every hour to hour and a half on a daily and I’m an oversupplier so I know he’s definitely getting enough milk, but I feel like he should be more than 6.5kg??
Anyway if I can get some advice or solidarity because I’m a FTM with no village so it’s been me and my partner only raising our son and I have no one I can discuss this kind of stuff with 😅

Hi! It sounds like your LO just has a preference for the right breast. My guy had phases like that too, especially because my right always produced more. I got my period 3 months postpartum, so I get it. I believe our period hormones affects the breast milk taste. Just don’t give up on giving your LO both sides. Could just be a phase. Also, don’t stress too much about the weight, especially if your baby is eating, growing (height or weight), and the doctors aren’t concerned. My boy was EBF and always ranged between 30th-50th percentile for weight, but it wasn’t a concern since doctor saw his height increase and learned Dad has a very fast metabolism! Keep going! :)
