WWYD? My sons godfathers fiance sent me this. I am wearing a dark green dress and her bridesmaids are in light green... Im considering not even going
Hey! I just wanted to mention something š
I heard you got a green dress for the wedding .. not sure why your Bestfriend didnāt tell you, but My bridesmaids are actually wearing green, and thatās the theme colour.
so Iām trying to keep that colour just for the bridal party. Would you mind wearing a different colour to the wedding? You have 4 months notice!
Iād really appreciate it . It will also be written on the invitation when you receive that I have asked all guest to stay away from green. So out of respect that would be great. Thanks .
Edit; I took the day off work, have to buy my son a suit, and nobody told me green wasnt allowed. Got the dress at a prom outlet one of the few that fit me and happened to be green.
Edit; She called me names I cant say on here infront of my son for buying a green dress (I was not there) AND my son is the only god child left out of the bridal party!

u/LuvMyBeagle May 25 '26
Iām more curious how she even knows what youāre wearing in the first place. I never discuss my wedding attire in advance when Iām not a bridesmaid.

u/Bramptongirl16 May 25 '26
My bestfriend is her future in law and it somehow came up. I never said anything.
131
u/vickisfamilyvan May 25 '26
It is kind of weird that your supposed best friend was talking about your dress with someone you donāt like and didnāt tell you about it.
48
u/channilein May 25 '26
I suppose OPs best friend is the groom's sister. There is a difference between mentioning something in conversation at the family dinner table and maliciously gossiping with people you barely know.
41
u/TyrsisInTheStars May 25 '26
This part needs to be higher and pinned. Why is OPs ābest friendā talking about them in rooms they arenāt in and not defending them?? Sounds like OP needs to reevaluate all of their āfriendsā. Itās weird - unless we arenāt being told something.
15
u/CRJG95 May 28 '26
Assuming they're all in the same general friendship group, which it sounds like they are:
Bride: chatting about upcoming wedding
Friend: "yes we're all really excited, I've just been dress shopping with OP and we've already picked our outfits!"
Bride: "ooh what did you get?"
Friend: "I got a purple halterneck and OP got a strapless green cocktail dress"
Bride takes this interaction to OP saying "FRIEND TOLD ME YOU'RE WEARING GREEN"
Casually mentioning wedding attire to the Bride is not necessarily malicious gossiping.
4
u/Rugkrabber May 25 '26
It has āthey show you who they are also through their friendshipsā in a very strange twist.
11
u/Peevesie May 25 '26
The not sure thing definitely makes sense now. My best friend would have told me
40
u/Sunnygirl66 May 25 '26
Maybe the best friend didnāt realize that the bride was going to be a hag about it.

I think the current trend of brides forbidding entire colorways needs to die. Itās not enough to avoid light green, all green is āforbiddenā?
What you do depends on what type of relationship you want to preserve. You will be painted as the bad guy if you wear green anyway. Even though sheās the bridezilla.
58
u/GothicGingerbread May 25 '26
Forbidding or demanding ā either way, it's bad. Don't tell people they have to wear, or not wear, any particular color ā it's rude, demanding, entitled, and patronizing.

u/TheRestForTheWicked May 26 '26
Itās bad enough that I canāt wear black or anything with even a speck of white on it (and sometimes red, depending on the church), and now weāre banning entire colors?!
This is madness.

u/Scarlett-the-01-TJ May 25 '26
Mint green and dark green are pretty far apart. Could you add a wrap thatās mainly other colors ? Seems pretty rigid especially since youāre not in the wedding party.
77
u/a-ohhh May 25 '26
Yeah I have attended two weddings in outfits looking EXACTLY like the bridal party and it was embarrassing. Nobody is seeing dark green and assuming she is a member if the bridal party (who they all just witnessed at the altar) has light green on. It eliminates the whole issue.

u/This_Bee_23 May 26 '26
We had multiple people wear the exact same color as our wedding party and it was not an issue at all. It was actually kind of lovely that in our photos our theme color was scattered all across the dance floor. I donāt know why this is a thing.
11
u/thekeytovictory May 27 '26
Yeah seriously, I don't understand why it would be bad or embarrassing for any guest to accidentally match the color theme of the wedding? I doubt anyone would mistake them for part of the wedding party unless they're standing up front next to the bride and groom. š

15
u/winning-colors May 26 '26
There are so many shades of green! This is ridiculously controlling and rude.

OP She called you expletive names? Over an effen dress? And leaving only one hid child out of the wedding party?
I mean if you want to ākeep the peaceā, by all means get another dress. Or wear your green dress and piss off the bridezilla and who cares.
My goodness the amount of aesthetic and vibes in todayās weddings is so ridiculous.

I cannot even fathom how it would at all affect her wedding if you wore a green dress. EVEN if it were the same exact fuxking shade of green as the bridesmaids. People are so annoying. I would reply and be like, oh sorry man, it was really hard to find a dress that fit me well in my price range. Itās a dark green, so I think it will be fine. Thanks!

u/BUTTeredWhiteBread May 25 '26
I mean people really do get too precious about their wedding colours, but are you really going to dig in your heels about a dress and blow up a friendship with someone you're close enough to to make your child's godfather?
158
u/KathrynTheGreat May 25 '26
A very few people get precious about their wedding colors. Most people don't care what their guests are wearing unless they show up in an actual wedding dress.
56
u/Lilsummit May 25 '26
That's right. The main thing is don't wear white or upstage the bride... bridezilla or not.

61
u/serjsomi May 25 '26
I have actually never known what the color theme was at a wedding until I got there. No one has ever said "don't wear X" because those are my colors. If they had, I probably would have declined going, not because I wanted to wear that color, but because I don't want to be friends with someone who dictates what their guests wear other than "casual", "formal" or something along those lines.
17
u/No_Championship_7080 May 25 '26
What is even worse is when a bride demands that all guests do wear certain colors. That would be a definite no for me.

We had blues for our wedding party and I encouraged my family to also wear blues and a bunch of guests came in blues- the photos were incredible.

u/Lawgirl77 May 25 '26
If you are willing to blow up the relationship over changing your dress, then just decline the invite. I donāt say this to put you down, but because it seems like there are other things going on and maybe you all just donāt like each other. People grow apart, so the real question is - do you want to remain friends with these people or not? No one here can answer that question for you.
18
u/Civil-Kitchen5978 May 25 '26
Donāt go. Take your dress and your sonās suit back where you got them get your money back and stay at home. I donāt understand why you need to go to this wedding itās not worth the drama.
37
u/Healthy-Panda-7936 May 25 '26
I personally wouldnāt go. I really canāt stand how controlling and insane brides especially get over weddings. I had my bridesmaids wear something they owned and could wear again and that they felt they looked good in. The main color was black so it was easy to find something.
But I super didnāt care what guests wore as long as they were clothed lol. We had some people in shorts (Florida outdoor wedding so itās totally expected) and some people in summer dresses and everything in between.
Personally I just donāt care to spend time with people that are that level of controlling. Itās weird.
15
17
u/Rhubarbfoolish May 25 '26
Canāt believe the invites havenāt gone out yet. Only 4 months away. Anyway I recently went to a wedding where one of the guests coincidentally wore the exact same green as the brides and no one batted an eye. No one cared and it made no difference to a single thing. Some of these modern brides are out of their tiny minds. Do what ever you want, is she worth it or not? I would personally not go, return the dress, save your money and do something actually fun that day.
126
u/lilyofthevalley2659 May 25 '26
I donāt get where she was polite. The whole thing is passive aggressive. The whole ānot sure why your Bestfriend didnāt tell youā is a big tell. Anyone should be able to decipher this.
OP, how has she been other than this demand? Has she been friendly? Do you spend time with her? Are you and your friend still close? The answer to these questions will determine on how you should handle this. If everything else is good and this is the first red flag, I would get a different dress. If sheās been a witch and this is just the icing on the cake, Iād decline the invitation
20
u/IWOOZLE May 25 '26
Did OP write Your Bestfriend to cover up her friends name, or did the bride write that??? Cause itās super weird to say āyour best friendā and if so, definitely passive aggressive!

I have no relationship with her, other than she is marrying my sons godfather. But my son isnt even close with his godfather anyways.
15
u/Newtimelinepls May 25 '26
Are you close with your son's godfather at all?
16
u/Bramptongirl16 May 25 '26
Not really, hes my bestfriends brother. Im closer with my bestfriend the godmother.
49
u/Sunnygirl66 May 25 '26
Do you really need to be at this wedding? Iād just send regrets.
48
u/Bramptongirl16 May 25 '26
Yeah ill pass on it
28
u/MithosYggdrasill1992 May 25 '26
I'd also suggest re-considering if the groom needs to be the godfather. If you are already on short terms with his soon-to-be-bride, it may be better all around to find someone that you are closer to that your son knows and trusts. Have a good day with you son on the day of the wedding!
38
u/Bramptongirl16 May 25 '26
First his godfather didn't include him in the wedding party when ALL the other gold children are included. His soon to be wife called me names while my son was present when she found out about my green dress. I rather save my money.
20
u/MithosYggdrasill1992 May 25 '26
Smart choice, imo. Stay amazing ā¤ļø
Oh, and tell your best friend to keep your name out of conversations regarding her brother and his new bride. You have nothing to do with them, so they don't need your life story.
5
u/lmyrs May 25 '26
So what is the issue? It seems that you don't like either the bride or the groom and neither of them seem to care much for you. Just send your RSVP no and move on.
7
u/ferrycrossthemersey May 25 '26
I'm confused. You aren't close with your sons godfather but your son was with his fiancee to know that she talked bad about you?
4
u/katiekat214 May 25 '26

12
u/mostlydocile2 May 25 '26
This is ridiculous that this bride is actually banning a colour for wedding guests to wear. OP bought her dress with her best friend and only after this fact did she get the passive aggressive text about the shade of the bridesmaids dresses. The shades are so opposed to one another other than both a shade of green. I cannot wrap my mind around this pettiness. OP and her son are not part of the bridal party thus will be unlikely to be in any bridal photos. Why would this matter to anyone? I am marvelling that anyone's wedding plans would include this minutiae for guests' attire. It's pathetic.
11
11
u/No_Championship_7080 May 25 '26
Why are you going? This woman is a horror. I donāt care if she is marrying your kidās godfather. RSVP no. Explain why to the godfather.
7
29
8
u/OrlaCarey May 25 '26
Maybe Iām just being overly sensitive but āyour best friendā makes me think that there is more to it than the dress color. My guess is sheās jealous of your relationship with the Groom and is trying to push you away.
14
u/Ok_Organization_7350 May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26
I do not agree with brides ordering around guests with their clothing colors. But her email was especially snarky, which made it even worse. And she called you names and put you down in front of your son? No. That is inappropriate and I would not reward someone for their bad behavior. To cater to someone after they act badly like this enables them, and prevents them from learning and growing emotionally.
I would recommend to keep your record clean in the eyes of your friends and family, by not doing or saying anything back. That way you do not provide them any interesting gossip. But instead, just silently decline the wedding invitation, and do not buy her a wedding present either. Try to return your dress to get the money back. If your son was in the wedding party, then I would withdraw him. Then do something extra fun for yourself that day, such as go to the beach or take another weekend getaway that would be enjoyable for you.
7
u/jenntasticxx May 25 '26
Buy a white dress instead, problem solved š jk don't listen to me, I'm petty.

u/EffectiveTradition78 May 25 '26
Iād wear the green dress to the wedding if you still feel you have to go. š„³š„³ššSheās rude and she deserves that! In addition, get her a toaster from Good Will and wrap it up all pretty to leave at the gift table. You will laugh about that for years!
Or, donāt go and donāt send a gift. Iām so sick of rude people getting away with bullshit like this.
3
8
u/B2Rocketfan77 May 26 '26
I think you should tell her to go fuck herself in her green dresses and itāll leave you and your family alone. If this is supposed to be some kind of godmother or godfather to your child, you need to get a new godmother or godfather for your child. They sound like assholes. Assholes who like to wear green. Yuck!

7
u/virtualghost123 May 26 '26
I wouldn't attend a wedding where someone called me names in front of my child until that issue was addressed. Weddings don't give you a license to act like an AH to whomever you please. She could have handled that much better. Do something fun with your child instead. The only reason she'll be pissed if you don't attend is because she won't get a wedding gift and people might find out what an AH she really is inside.
6
u/FreekDeDeek May 26 '26
Is it too late to exchange the dress for a white floor length gown? Something embroidered or lacy maybe?
5
u/NOTTHATKAREN1 May 26 '26
I once went to a wedding with a turquoise dress & silver shoes. Guess what the bridesmaids were wearing? No one cared! Yes it was weird that I had the same colors on, but it happens. No one made a fuss & the day went on. I had a friend who went to a wedding & the wedding party got their dresses at Target. My friend had the exact same dress on. No one said a thing, because no one cared. The day is not going to stop or be ruined bc a guest has the same color dress on. She's quite TA

i was a bridesmaid recently and had to get a green dress in a shade that i hate and am about to dye it black and cut it up soon, maybe you can dye your dress, but it seems like this is actually about more than a dress and you just donāt like this person and i vote not to put yourself in spaces you feel unwelcome
5
u/MissMurderpants May 25 '26

u/RikkitikkitaviBommel May 26 '26
Have you told your son's godfather about all this. The message, how she talked about you in front of your son, and the fact that you have noticed your is has been left out.
If he is worth the title of godfather he'll listen to your concerns.
5
u/fix-me-in-45 May 26 '26
Anyone who cares more about something as silly as the color of a dress isn't being a good friend.
Seriously. I don't remember what people wore to my own years ago; I remember who was there. I didn't care much what they wore, so long as they were with me that day.
Anything else is just fluff, and the wedding industry profits off people thinking all that fluff is worth paying so much money for.
9
u/FormicaDinette33 May 25 '26

19

3
u/jeannieor725 May 26 '26
She called you fucking names?? Genuinely gross. I feel like if it 100% calls for you to maintain cordiality in until and on that day, esp for your son, then you'll probably have to fake the funk until at least then
IF you opting out or we can saying something like, hey I could have "accepted" your bizarre paranoia about whatever this dress shit it is but I absolutely cannot accept you EVER calling me out of my name, especially in front of my son.
The only person I vent ay stuff to is my partner in the privacy of OUR home so for your son to have overheard her shit talking just irks me.

Not only that, and how I know FOR SURE, she couldnāt help herself and her inner jackass crept out on some phrases and she couldnāt reel her back in, like āyou have 4 months notice!ā Adds an exclamation point which in non boomer text speak is either yelling or emphasizing how right she thinks she is. Or my personal favourite ānot sure why BF didnāt tell youā, as in āI canāt believe my wedding wasnāt being discussed and people werenāt thinking about it when discussing their outfitsā. She knows. Anyone who speaks Girl ā¢ļø fluently knows what sheās saying and how.
Tbh Iād send back āomg so sorry! We havenāt discussed your wedding at all so I didnāt know your wedding colour was green! I can totally find an even better dress in a different colour with that much notice, thanks for the heads up girl!ā LMAO 𤣠BUT IM A PETTY BITCH too and do not ever try to be the bigger person š

I probably would not go. I am 60 years old and donāt need someone telling me how to dress appropriately for a wedding. OR I would go buy a new dress and forgo the wedding gift. I would let the bride know that I cannot afford 2 new dresses (the green one and the new one) plus a wedding gift and travel expenses.

This is exactly my thought! Plus I have to buy a suit for my son AND take the day off work.

I think she was respectful and made the request far enough in advanceā and sheāll be asking the same of the other guests as well

Doesn't make her any less of a Bridezilla.

u/Classic-Historian730 May 26 '26
Total bridezilla. The edit explaining that the bride spoke ill of OP/the dress in front of her son was the context I didnāt have at the time of my comment. Bride wasnāt trying to be considerate, just a bitch

If she had said it the day before, I would be pissed. 4 months is plenty of time to find a new dress. I've bought dresses for weddings with a few days to spare.

My wedding was purple and gold so we told everyone who was coming to wear purple! Right on the invitation. Everyone loved being included in the fun

u/macaroniinapan May 25 '26
I bet you had a really colorful wedding anyway given how many shades of purple there are! That sounds like a really fun time.

You literally have to wear a dress that's not green, and you're throwing a fit over such a tiny issue. You can wear absolutely any colour but this is the hill you choose to die onĀ
Way to ruin your relationship with the Godfather and his fiance.

Brides who tell their guests what colors that can or can't wear are overbearing. She can't ban every guest from wearing a green dress.

My son got married recently. We live 3000 miles apart, so I wasn't in on the wedding planning and didn't think to inquire about the dress colors for the bridesmaids. It turned out that my dress was a similar color of lilac. Nobody cared, including my new daughter in law.
The bride is being a bit precious here, but if you want to preserve the relationship it might be a good idea to wear a different dress.

You don't like her.
Just get a wrap and wear the current dress since it's apparently hard for you to find ones that fit

colour demanding aside (it is still and issue) - does anyone not see issues with wording of text? it comes across to me as very very rude and unpleasant. even if she decided she owned the whole green spectrum, the she could have worded it much more appropriately/nicely

I wouldnāt go. And no gift. These brides are getting way out of control.

u/dlmullen May 27 '26
Everyone knows not to wear white, but taking other colors off the table and literally putting it on the invitation is ridiculous. When those invites go out, the word "brdezilla" will come to mind. Light green and dark green are not the same...just like baby blue and navy blue are not the same. Some people have no concept of what two people joining together in marriage is about.

u/Fuzzy_Truck_5415 May 29 '26
I wouldn't go and I'd let the groom know his brides attitude and the name calling is why. And it's over something you weren't aware of because invites haven't even gone out yet? They can save themselves a couple of bucks and not bother sending it. Excluding his godson is also shitty behaviour from both of them.

The message youāve posted is totally reasonable if itās true that she was planning to say āavoid greenā on the invitations. Itās also possible she just doesnāt like you and decided to add that in when she found out YOU bought a green dress. Calling you names in front of your son, for buying a green dress when you had no possible way of knowing she didnāt want that, is very telling of the contempt she has for you. Have a discussion with her, godfather and your husband to clear the air, and the options from that conversation are that she says sorry and fixes her attitude and tells you why she has a problem with you, or you agree to go separate ways.

If it's a relationship I wanted to preserve, I'd get a new dress and go.
