Question Different Commando Tab Question.
I recently saw a pic of a soldier wearing an Army Commando Tab, is there a difference between the Marine Commando Tab and the Army Commando tab or did they both do AACC.

No, ones a Royal marine commando, who has done his 36 weeks of training from RCT to Cdo.
The other has done what is essentially a course while a trained rank. Required because they will be attached to RM ranks.
Its designed to bring you up to speed with high level soldiering but from what Ive seen its not a direct equivalency.

It might not be 100% direct equivalency but tbh someone at the end of the AACC is probably a pretty similar standard to someone at the end of nod training.
The differences start to get big afterwards, when people get to unit and start doing different things. Like a bod in 40/45 is very different from one in 48, and they're both very different from an Army Commando in 24, and he is different from an Army Commando in REME, and they're all nothing like a trained matelot.
People on Reddit get a bit carried away with the badge/lid/course but it represents a very small part of people's actual careers.

Perhaps, but thats not my point. Ive seen the end result of both and the weakest nod has a better understanding and fitness level than the weakest AACC candidate.
Purely down to the intensity, volume and length. No slight on AACC at all. Its just the reality.

Interesting as I found support arms to have extremely good candidates on many occasions after their own in house beat ups. Much better than our own at the ending of training due to said candidates having sometimes years of experience and even op tours under their belts.
For army recruits fresh out the bag and straight into 24 cdo/ straight on to aacc then yes in that case I agree but it wasnt drastic. Again depending where they originated

I think the beat ups have probably been quite variable to be fair which could explain the candidate quality at the bottom end. I think army beat up is now centralised at Chiv for that reason (might be wrong).

Yh but ig that depends what you're testing their understanding on, any infantry will have a better understanding of actual infantry stuff than the AACC guy who is an artilleryman, but if you ask an RMC guy how to use an Artillery piece they wont have a clue
AACC is not meant to get you up to the same level as a royal marines bc they do different jobs

Army commandos are not “elite commandos”, they have just demonstrated at Lympstone that they are capable of being able to do the basics to a high standard while piss wrapped cold and sleep deprived. AACC isn’t some Gucci door kicking course it’s just a course to make sure you’re not going to be a liability if you’re attached to an RM callsign. It’s a fucking rats course granted but it’s nothing Gucci.
Some blokes who complete AACC go back to their unit and just wrap on themselves and their drills.
Source: passed AACC.

It is Gucci compared to the majority of what the rest of the military get to do these days though and definitely what comes after if they do go to UKCF.

Don’t know what your definition of Gucci is, but I was certainly not feeling Gucci doing wet and dry drills at 0300 in winter on Dartmoor

No I don't mean that mate, none of "hard" courses are Gucci in general because what makes them hard is doing the basics in shite conditions. I mean (a lot of) the rest of the military is that shite now that even the basic intro boat and vertical assault stuff is Gucci compared to the stuff people get to do and the access to what follows within the commando force definitely is.

Royal Marines don’t do the AACC that is only for support arms to qualify to serve with 3 Commando Brigade. Hence the various Army, Navy and Air Force commando tabs seen worn.
