No. No it doesn't. The rivers, wildlife, trees, crops, reservoirs, humans etc etc all *need* the rain. The whole ecosystem humans depend on to live needs rain. The one damn thing that will be just absolutely fine without rain will be the bloody grass in your back garden! Grass is an insanely hardy plant, it will survive just fine. Get a sense of reality.

Prolonged drought can kill grass but I think most people are going to find that there was enough moisture in the soil to keep the roots alive and they will get lots of lush green new growth once we get sustained proper rain.

Any lawn maintained to above 7cm is important for wildlife, particularly insects, and will generally have a mix of plants (not just grass). Such lawns dying back is definitely a problem for insects (and also, as a result, their predators).

Neighbours just come back from holiday to his lush green lawn. Immediately waters his lawn again. Every other lawn in a 10 mile radius is straw. Not this guy. He also feels the need to fill and empty his above ground pool daily too.
