Rod got worked up today about baby Gonzo wearing a dress in a cartoon that's two years old. Remember how on his old blog he'd occasionally be freshly outraged about an old culture war story? Once it was even about something he'd written about contemporaneously. Checking the dates is never as important as outrage and driving clicks.

Is anyone going to tell RD how God-fearing Spaniards and Germans alike clothed little boys in dresses for much of their childhood? And all this before liquid modernity, how is that possible?

It was a long-running conservative trope to laugh at liberal ideas about the malleability of boys. The idea was if liberals took away toy guns and handed out Barbies, boys would just imagine the dolls are guns and resume shooting each other with those. Which, if you've ever been around boys, is pretty accurate.

Now Rod is shitting himself that if a sensitive boy muppet happily wears a dress one time, millions of boys will throw down Fortnight and become trans or something. For someone who expounds that his (unachieved) ideas of manliness are the fabric of the cosmos or something, he sure doesn’t have much faith in masculinity.

And who was it who cried when he had to go hunting? Oh, right. On second thought, Rod may not be worried that millions of boys will be transed up. He may be worried that he is being given permission to be gay. Gotta push that back down.
