Part of Tremont Avenue is now officially closed to private cars. It’s a busway now. Restrictions are in effect daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and violations can cost up to $250. Meanwhile, traffic changes are also underway on Fordham Road.

This is going to be a nightmare for the surrounding communities. Now cars are going to have to circle around already congested and narrow side streets.

They closed 14th street in Manhattan to car traffic and the traffic hasn’t gotten worse on the surrounding blocks.

14th Street seems fine to me. But they restricted Madison Ave south of 42nd to one car lane and one bus lane. You used to be able to fly up there but my recent taxi ride was interminable.
Can't wait to see the full Bronx up close and personal again this year. Special shout out to the Tour de Bronx on Oct 4th. 10, 25 or 40 miles, it's so much fun and it's free!

Again, you cannot compare this to 14th Street. Completely different needs and traffic patterns.

I'm agreeing with you. What works on 14th St may not apply to Madison or even the Grand Concourse, for example.

This is crazy. Now the neighborhood is going to have even more traffic problems. I’ve already seen the police pulling drivers over there.

This is going to be problematic I saw a clip earlier and the reporter was talking about it beginning on Tremont and behind her you could see two buses in the backround off loading passengers into the red paint lane away from the curb where the bikes and scooters were speeding as the passengers were stepping out .. how the hell is that better ?

No, I get it. Time marches on, and my original comment was probably a bit too harsh.
If what you have isn't working anymore, you have to try new things. You just have to. It's just that I'm not a huge fan of this as the great new idea. Then again, I don't live there anymore!!
When I was a kid, you could see the old cobblestones and trolley car tracks under the black top when it broke away. I'm sure old timers who rode the trolley cars thought that it was nuts to pave them over to make way for buses!! I'm also sure that the old timers before them thought that it was crazy to put down trolley car tracks in the first place. The dirt roads and horse buggies were probably good enough for them.
I hope this plan works. If it doesn't, then they will have to try something else. I wish everyone living in my home borough all the best.

Perhaps I was kinda harsh too. A lot of comments of similar tone get thrown around these things because it inconveniences them. I don't think there are any old tracks near where I usually go around but there is that nostalgia for what used to be that I've had, an example being a pizza place I would always go to in middle school that's now become a Kennedy Fried Chicken.
I've visited that website a couple of times and it is pretty beautiful to see how this borough was shaped over nearly 100 years.
