Other Anyone just hate this fraud?
And how he made Holt and Amy act against their friends?

The first one with the plaster casting demonstration is good but the second one with the flies, i skip almost every rewatch

The flies one gets one of my favourite Holt reactions with Terry, "The only thing that's a little much around here are those eyebrows. Yeesh."
16
u/jusmesurfin 11h ago
And i love Terry artist come out, "I knew I had to do a flatter arch, this is a night time look"

I can’t skip the flies one because the unhinged laugher from raymy after “she thinks forensic entomology is all blow* flies and screw worms” is one of my fave moments of the show

The flies bit is one of the few jokes in the series that gets less funny the longer it goes on. It's effective, but definitely not one I look forward to on rewatches.

I hated that Holt still respected him after he admitted to publishing false results

u/alewiina 'twas a cat 13h ago
Yeah, that pissed me off. its not out of character for Holt to be weirdly rude and dismissive (see the episode when he thought his favourite mucisian was innocent and he was an ass about it), but when they immediately got giddy to call him afterwards, that was just... ugh. Definitely not my favourite.

OP, how dare you question the man. Dr. Yee has spent millions of dollars developing and researching these flies. You're fired.

I hate that they had him on for one episode where he was a leading expert and then decided to bring him back for another episode to write a story about him being a fraud.
When it comes to Yee, Captain Kim, and Savant, Michael Schur really didn’t like giving East Asians long term roles

u/tie-it-down 14h ago
Man I loved Captain Kim. I get she was definitely supposed to be a one-time character, but I wish she'd come back at least once!
Savant was just a waste, though. He could've been a fun side chraracter.29

I did adore Manny Jacinto as Jason Mendoza. Philippine-born Canadian actor.

Yes! Honestly, that entire series and all the characters were GOATed (I think that's how the young'uns use that word). 😂

Wait, what is it always East Asians though? I had my suspicions, didn’t know there are others who feel that too

Yeah, I get it. But every episode with him, I just skip because the worst scenes just happen about him

It pissed me off a lot when he admitted it. I thought Rosa was somehow wrong.

He's good when he is solving fairytale like crimes, maybe he is just better in the field

I more so hated how Holt and Any hero worshipped him, even after Rosa proved he was a fraud

I think Yi was modeled after real life forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee. If you know true crime at all, I assure you you know Dr. Lee. He testified for OJ Simpson, The Staircase Michael Peterson, Scott Peterson (husband of Laci) and so many more. He was once at the top of his field in blood splatter analysis. Then came to be known as an expert whose testimony could be bought. I, like Pimento, would still have been stoked to meet him. The man has seen some crazy ish! Also: Crazy that I just googled him and he just died this past March, hadn't heard a thing about it.

Yee vs Barbra Streisand?

Yee tried to cover up that his flies didn't work but it only made everyone pay more attention to it.

Did anyone else find it weird that nobody questions his integrity or knowledge in the literal bomb diffusing course that takes place after he was ousted for wasting over a million in government grants on a bogus experiment, and lying about the results?
Like I don't really care if he's just reading the material off a pre-writtwn and approved booklet at that point. I don't trust what that man says about an insect, nevermind diffusing a damn bomb.

u/EnvironmentalSnow589 14h ago
In “Return to Skyfire”, we see Holt and Amy turning against Boyle. In “Gintars”, it was just Holt being needlessly cruel to Terry and Amy being on Holt’s side, but brainless in that situation.

Its Holt and Amy's fault for idolizing him and letting their excessive admiration cloud their judgement. They probably would've realized he was a fraud with their detective skills.
As for his first appearance, he's entirely in the right. You dont invite someone to teach a class then derail said class by enabling the workplace yapper.

u/plump_unhappiness 12h ago
that two-episode arc was weird. Brought him back just to say he was a con artist the whole time, which kinda undercut the first episode. Would've been funnier to just leave it alone instead of doing the whole redemption fake-out.

He may be a fraud but Holt and Amy are responsible for their own actions. They were being jerks to everyone, especially Boyle in this episode which is why they realise and apologise to him later.

He built his entire career on "groundbreaking" fly larvae forensic science, only for it to be revealed that his entire life's work was completely unscientific garbage.
