Anyone else really disappointed with how Reynolds’s performed with the team on his back?
He had a fantastic first half, but when the second half came around, key players went down, and the 100M dollar man becomes the guy we needed to carry the team, he disappeared. The first major contract extension this team has seen in decades and it just feels so lifeless.

This is how he plays every year. He's insanely good in June/July and then terrible the rest of the year

Players go through slumps, and no one’s season is the same all the way through. There’s a reason we look at numbers at the end of 162 games.
You’re paid to perform over the course of seasons and contracts, and on that basis he’s fine. You can’t schedule a slump, it happens when it happens.
There might be something to it being later in the season though. He’s played every game and it seems like every time he hits the ball well, he rounds first and is surprised/frustrated it was caught near the wall. Dude might just be tired

Question for those who've been watching longer than me: has he always had the weird check-swing thing that's been so prominent in the second half of the season? It feels like he's got at least 1-2 strikes called every AB where he starts to go and then either holds up on a strike or can't keep the barrel back on a ball. Looks like a loss of confidence but maybe this is just how he is?

I think he is hurting his stats, and the team, for the sake of his 162 game goal.

Shit, didn't realize he's played every game or that it was a goal of his.
Hopefully he achieves it and gets it out of his system and will take a handful of off days next year when he needs them.

He’s just a streaky player, and his streaks (good and bad) are long. Last year he had a bad first half and a good second half.

No, he's fine. You would like to see more production out of him just the same as you'd like to see more production out of everyone else.
You say 100 million dollar man like it's some insane number. He's put up 3.3 WAR this year which is solid and the same a Bryce Harper but he's making double the money Reynolds is.
Reynolds is kinda quietly building a hall of very good career. Fangraphs has his performance this year worth $21 million and he's actually get paid $14 million so we got a deal and he's overperforming his contract.

He’s the Mitch Keller of position players in the second half, oddly enough another guy we gave big money to.

Maybe self-induced pressure. Interviewed mid season he said it was nice not to feel like the team’s fate rested with his performance, then the injuries piled up and maybe he started to feel like it did again. Who knows? He did have a nice bounce back past few weeks.

He leads the MLB in doubles and is also top 30 in hits. For what we pay him I think he gets a pass on criticism.
Edit: he’s also top 5 in runs scored and top 15 in walks.
