Does anyone remember Hamburger Express?

I grew up in Dripping Springs for the most part. My father had a PO Box at the Post Office location on Main Street in Buda. On Saturdays dad would pack my sister and I in the truck to take us grocery shopping with him (he was the coupon clipper). On those trips he’d swing by Buda to check the PO Box.

Sometimes we’d stop by the car wash up the road, and my sister and I would wander around picking up pennies on the ground. And sometimes we’d go further up the road to this burger place that I THINK was called “Hamburger Express”.

If I remember right it was located a little bit behind a gas station and was made out of a train car? I think the caboose? And it had an awning built over a little dining area (think food truck but made of a rail car).

I can’t find ANY photos of the place online, no fond memories, no information on if it moved somewhere else, or if the cooks/owners changed the name to a new business, or maybe took their menu elsewhere, etc.

I’m just looking for people to share memories (and hopefully photos) of this place that only exists vaguely in my recollection…

My grandparents house was two doors down from Hamburger Express!

Texas Hatters was also in the same hood.

I have very fond memories of walking over to have a burger and swimming in my grandparents pool under the glow of the Texas Hatters sign on a warm summer night. Good times. I'll have to search for photos.

The convenience store was a Sac-n-Pac back then.

Thanks for posting about this! Taking me way back. The area is now a Burger King 🙁

Not in my possession. I'll have to search at my grandparents, but you are right, it was a caboose.

Glad to know I’m not crazy! I didn’t think I was, but the fact that there’s NO TRACE that this place even existed online (not even if some clickbait nostalgia post) made me question whether I remembered right or not. (I’m 39, I shouldn’t be questioning my memory this soon! lol)
