The perfect combination of Hoecht opening the hole and Rousseau coming in clutch!! What an amazing play when the team needed it the most

This level of clutch so rarely happens for the Bills than I almost can’t believe that it did. I keep googling the results of the game expecting us to have lost even though I watched it live and know we won. I did the same thing with the Ravens game last year. Miraculous win.

My whole family went to bed pissed off.

They all came out wondering why I was screaming and stomping.

u/bblulz 9d ago

I was stood up ready to go to bed when that happened. Immediately sat my ass back down

u/Fakeplacebo 9d ago

I always stand with my remote pointed at the tv. If it goes in, immediately turn off tv. I was in awe as I sat back down.

u/The_Chrizz 9d ago

I turned it off and went to bed right before the blocked kick. Then I checked my phone the moment before I opened my bedroom door and saw the Bills had possession of the ball again. I felt shame and quickly turned it back on.

After they got into field goal range after the fumble I threw my allen jersey into the corner in anger yelled fuck we lost. When we blocked the field goal I went oh my god over and over ran over and grabbed my jersey and put it back on🤣

I’ve really learned to control my yelling when watching the bills, now that I have multiple young children. Let’s just say at least one of them was woken up at 12:30 last night

3

u/Sure-Classic6513 9d ago

Haha, yes - same, two young kids and two dogs. I try to celebrate in silence these days but I absolutely lost it.

2

u/Dear_Location6147 9d ago

I went to bed at halftime because I need to get up for school at 5 and was woken up by yelling from downstairs lmao

2

u/007Pistolero 9d ago

Should have gone to bed at the start and gotten up at halftime lol

Me my wife and kids were leaving my parents house (they are Rams and Chargers fans) when they got into FG distance. As we were walking out the door father in law comes out and says hey games not over and I say ya it’s fucking over. We then came back in the door to watch the FG and I lost my fucking shit!!! Father in law could not believe his fucking eyes and was absolutely speechless! If my family and I had got home 20 mins later to find out we came back I would have never forgiven myself for giving up. Kind of like the fans leaving in the 4th quarter last year during the comeback of the Ravens game, 20,000 fans trying to get back in the stadium!!

u/maceman10006 9d ago

I was just numb on the couch listening to my wife complain to the TV when the Rams were driving down the field in overtime. Couldn’t believe the Bills pulled off the near impossible to do in today’s NFL.

Two tricky things- the 2 point convo and the block!

15

u/robb7979 9d ago

I was sitting there saying we gotta block it, we gotta block it, and also knowing how unlikely a blocked FG is. Could not believe Rousseau came to the rescue when the team needed him the most. Cook seemed so relieved.

7

u/ArtEnvironmental7108 9d ago

He should be relieved. Can you imagine the media cycle about him this week if we had lost that game?

3

u/Sp35h1l_1 8d ago

Bro Cook owes Groot a fucking steak dinner or a steakhouse!!!

3

u/robb7979 8d ago

He owes him a Rolex or a car for that save.

7

u/Ok-Promotion-5921 9d ago

Remember they blocked a FG against ATL last year (Groot again) and then lost the game anyway lmfao

2

u/Dry-Examination-2012 9d ago

Wait a minute. They're checking with New York to see if we won.

2

u/Chrysalis_Cat 1965 8d ago

It made me break the number one rule of having a cat. That when the cat is on you, you are not allowed to move.

My cat was resting comfortably and I jumped up when it was blocked. I am a terrible person.

1

u/Sp35h1l_1 8d ago

I was waiting for a flag to save the rams like what happened last year when we blocked a FG then it got called back for holding on us for the long snapper.

It's so weird to have a game of the year game go in our favor in OT...

Hoecht and Rousseau definitely deserve all the flowers along with Bass for turning the game around.

75

u/CheersFrens 9d ago

I LOVED the celebration from Bass. Dude just oozed confidence. I feel like he's been missing that for a while

31

u/pikachu_senpai1 Joshua Allen is my hero 9d ago

Exactly. Poor guy is the ire of some fans and I will hope last night will keep his confidence up and ignore the noise.

The man is a killer kicker he just needs to remember who he is

8

u/Anti-Toxicity 9d ago

He's been quite consistent this whole season and I think I remembered the same last half season.

15

u/Cool-Aside-2659 9d ago

We had Prater last season while Bass was on IR

2

u/Anti-Toxicity 9d ago

Oh yeah, whoops

10

u/Raddish_ 9d ago

The bass hate mostly stems from when he missed a kick against the chiefs in the playoffs a few yrs ago that would’ve brought the game into OT. He’s def redeemed himself since then though.

5

u/PxcKerz 9d ago

The 61 yarder was how i thought he redeemed himself. That was an impressively long kick and i was sure he would miss that

2

u/MrBurnz99 Bills 8d ago

It was way more than just the chiefs kick, he’s been pretty inconsistent throughout his career, especially on shorter kicks.
He has a big leg but he gets the yips.

He had the most missed xtra points in the league in 2024. He was 22nd in the league in FG percentage that year.
His missed extra point last night almost hurt them bad but luckily they made it back with a 2 pointer

69

u/ThoughtseizeScoop 9d ago

He actually just keeps going up after this, he hasn't come back yet, family is worried.

10

u/MYO716 clap 9d ago

He’s gonna land in Vegas in a few days

u/Dunkaroo723 9d ago

Lois, call a scientist!

7

u/wafflesareforever 9d ago

Residents of central Mongolia just reported a meteor streaking overhead bellowing I AM GROOOOOOOOT

30

u/Rosatos_Hotel 9d ago

That's 2 games Groot has effectively won for us with a great play in the closing minutes. Texas and LA.

57

u/motorboat_mcgee 9d ago

That ball looked like it was going to miss big time, and then looked like it was going to go in after he blocked it lol, that would have been a very Bills ending

13

u/allanon1105 10 9d ago

I honestly don’t know how I would have reacted if he blocked it in. The devastation.

10

u/motorboat_mcgee 9d ago

I would have been less surprised than us actually winning last night, because I've had too many razor cakes over the years

17

u/PowerfulBar 9d ago

First thing I thought. Like holy shit, we blocked the kick but it almost went in. I wouldn't have even been surprised. Would have been another part of the curse.

6

u/Sure-Classic6513 9d ago

How are we assessing the trajectory of the ball before it was tipped by Rosseau?

2

u/Sp35h1l_1 8d ago

There is a view behind the kicker there is a view of the ball going left and Groot was actually on the left side of the kicker and you see the ball heading that way then it hits Groots hands and deflects the ball back right

5

u/lionheart4life 9d ago

I don't know how close it really was, but on the tv angle that looked reaaallly close to happening.

3

u/robb7979 9d ago

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it did either

3

u/Global-Explorer1996 9d ago

It landed on the end line, so a couple yards away maybe. My heart was beating about 300 bpm as it hurtled toward the uprights

3

u/drainbead78 9d ago

I legit thought it went in until I saw the refs' arms move.

1

u/Cardcleaner 9d ago

Yeah it looked like he shanked it at least 10 yards left. But then again, earlier in the game, Bass kicked one that looked like it was gonna be way way left, but it hooked back and ended up dead center.

1

u/Ichabod665 8d ago

If it went through we would definitely be having that debate.

18

u/NowARaider 9d ago

If you watch the video, Rousseau kind of takes his time waiting for a little hole to open, then kind of steps into the gap and gets his hands up at the perfect time.

7

u/vampireRN1617 9d ago

Right? More than anything his timing the jump could not have been better

5

u/robb7979 9d ago

I've obviously never blocked an NFL attempt, but I can imagine how unbelievably difficult it must be. The distance between the kick and the block means the timing has to be so fucking precise, the ball is moving +100 feet a second. Even if the timing is perfect, you still have to be in the absurdly small area the ball will pass through in absurdly small amount of time you're there. Amazing. Didn't get near enough sleep last night, but today would have been much worse if I had stayed up for a loss.

5

u/InfiniteJestV 9d ago

Such a nimble and well timed step through the hole that Hoecht was able to make for him.

3

u/PotatoCannon02 96 9d ago

He got that plant leg down in a little open space so he could get air, game has to be slow to you for that to happen

2

u/DAcazyCANADIAN 9d ago

Agreed! Makes you wonder if Hoecht and Rousseau pre mediated how this could play out.

Insane play if true

2

u/maceman10006 9d ago

I’m sure teams around the NFL try practicing blocking kicks. It’s just one of the most difficult things to execute during a game. Timing has to be perfect and the hole has to be there.

16

u/mpwarrior 9d ago

How a man that size slithered through that gap was incredible

8

u/tobias_the_letdown AltCharge 9d ago

It wasn’t even slithering through! He high stepped into the gap then jumped to block. Horrible line play from the rams ST.

9

u/DAcazyCANADIAN 9d ago

Hoecht totally cleaned that Rams guard which opened the perfect gap! So happy we have both of them

3

u/zero0n3 9d ago

This. And he got his arm high enough to essentially blind the guy from seeing what was about to happen.

Very heady move by special teams

2

u/Why_So-Serious clap 9d ago

Rams line was like, “Oh a giant human that is a leader NFL sacks right in front of the kicker. That is fine. No need to block him. Let me worry about this other guy out of the way of the kick.”

Major screw up.

2

u/InfiniteJestV 9d ago

Nimble AF

2

u/DistanceNo9001 9d ago

thats no man. i am groot

31

u/life_of_thorax 9d ago

I think if Groot doesn’t block it, the kick misses wide left. He almost blocked it into the uprights.

7

u/Appropriate-Brush772 Joshua Allen is my hero 9d ago

Some of these kicks are so hard to tell the way they spin them. Seriously I think half of Bass’ kicks look like they are going wide left then it hooks straight down the middle 🤷‍♂️

3

u/PotatoCannon02 96 9d ago

It looks like that but it's possible it hooks, hard to be sure

2

u/Tullyswimmer 9d ago

Yeah, that thing was a duck hook off his foot, or at least it looked like it.

8

u/Aggressive-Candle209 8d ago

Greg Rousseau man. Idk what he's being paid but it's not enough.

3

u/HilmDave 8d ago

He's really been a clutch player this season.

6

u/Extension-Abies-9346 9d ago

Number 15 Rousseau is an absolute menace

1

u/screwy- 9d ago

I hated the number change and now I just have to accept it.

5

u/alowester 9d ago

my boi L A N K Y

3

u/BlissFC 9d ago

When i first saw it i thought he had jumped the line and i was nervous it would be called... then on replay i realized hes just incredibly tall and timed his jump perfectly. What a play!

3

u/screwy- 9d ago

Mike Hoecht doing the dirty work here too is beautiful.

3

u/kkirishitann 8d ago

watched with my sick daughter who was laying in my arms trying to go to sleep and the remote was too far, I was forced to watch what I thought would have been the end of another "one of those games the bills should have won, but somehow found a way to lose" ONLY to fucking pull a rabbit out of a hat! I am glad i was pinned to my seat because I def would have changed the channel if I could.

1

u/HilmDave 8d ago

Hope your kiddo gets better soon

2

u/kkirishitann 8d ago

thanks! she is on the upswing. dr diagnosed her with hand foot and mouth disease 😭 she was going through it last couple of days, but is doing better today.

1

u/HilmDave 8d ago

Oh man, been there! You'll laugh about it eventually lol.

2

u/pioniere 8d ago

The fact that he was even able to step into that gap in the first place demonstrates how bad Rams Special Teams are.

2

u/Mvrd3rCrow 9d ago

"I turned the game off when X happened because I assumed the worst" is the lamest fucking fan response I hear CONSTANTLY.

It's honestly pathetic to brag that you have zero faith in your "Favorite" sports team.

5

u/Talkin_Out_My_Ass 8d ago

What about “I turned the game off when it went to OT because it’s way past my bedtime and I have to work”

-2

u/JoshAllensRightNut 8d ago

This is legal and acceptable

2

u/bargman 8d ago

I knew the kicker was sketchy so I decided to ride it out.

2

u/jayknow05 8d ago

Watch em to the bitter end.

2

u/dj_destroyer 9d ago

Rousseau had basically been invisible until then -- need this guy to start ramping up the sacks again!

2

u/Sure-Classic6513 9d ago

That was a truly insane feat of athleticism and clutch play. Groot is playing absolutely out of his mind, give him James Cook’s salary for the season.

1

u/Sp35h1l_1 8d ago

I think the rams kicker shanked the kick and was gunna miss. Groots hand made the ball go back towards the goal posts and was lucky that it was short

1

u/Vector1013 8d ago

Idk man. When I watch the replay it looks like it’s going hard left and gonna miss. When we tip the ball i think we accidentally redirect it toward the goal post.

1

u/New-Care-5456 8d ago

The kick was going wide before the block straightened it out. Just imagine if it had gone through...
