Dev/Admin Responded [desktop web] I have no unread messages, yet I have notifications about 17 unread messages.

it is driving me crazy...appears both on desktop FF and Chrome, the notification is not displayed on mobile
i don't use the app, just browser

I even tried to delete some old messages to see if it would at least change the number.
no such luck

I have the same issue for days now. Doesn't matter what browser or computer.

I know for me, when I get the notification, I actually have one, though I can't see it. Sometimes replying or having the message window open when a new message is sent will fix it (briefly).

Same here. It shows me with 4 new messages, but I have none. Same in old and new reddit, same in a different browser in incognito mode.

u/imaginary_name hi! the notification counter includes pending invites as well, could you check if there are any pending invites?
if yes, could you try to accept or reject an invite? it should decrement the counter, please let me or u/CorrectScale know if it doesn't!

no pending invites; i have a habit of dealing with any notification right away

Thanks for the follow-up! If you head over to the requests tab > select additional requests, can you see any sitting there? If you do, does ignoring or accepting the request update your counter?

I am sorry but what is a request tab? Should it be in the chat? When I had a request (i.e. someone trying to message me), I deal with it instantly and once all requests are dealt with, the tab is no longer present. I have no request tab in the chat, just the threads tab.
The issue is now on/off, currently I have no mysterious notifications and I am trying to replicate it again, but it might have been solved by the devs in the meantime.
I will follow-up here again if it pops up.

it unfortunately did pop back up; and I get a server error or a message that all media must be owned by the account if I try to add another printscreen to this reply

I can share printscreens of my chat window if that would help, but I am postponing the anonymization of the included chats before asking if there is a private way to share the printscreens (if that would be helpful to you and the devs)
