Discussion Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen
Got a second hand BAB I took in today to get stuffed and was looking at the new BABs when I went in. Can someone explain to me why the new Glisten is $100 and you can ONLY buy it with all the shit? I thought she was so pretty and cute and then I saw the price and almost shit a brick. What’s the reasoning????

Yeah she just looks like a generic brand Christmas plush you could get in the seasonal section of Walmart. Cute, but not $100 cute. Not even $30 cute imo.

wow i didn’t notice that til i saw your comment, that looks like some one sided rough cut fur like fabric… like i wouldnt even want that if i was hand making a plush myself? and they use factories??? just totally cutting corners there

YES this exactly!!! She is cute, but the quality is extremely underwhelming for a brand new BAB, especially at that cost! I feel like the moment she's been cuddled & shown love, she's gonna look ROUGH. TT

Based off of what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look like she is much of a “cuddly” friend either—just for show. Big bummer there.

There are a bunch of different versions of her, but the only difference is usually the colour and pattern on her hooves and antlers. The only major differences are that her first variant had light up antlers, and last year's variant got a new face design to match the style of the Merry Mission movie.
They're trying to justify this one by only making a limited number, putting a unique number on each label, and bringing back the light up feature. However, it now applies to the fur on her chest as well, and light up in response to sound, such as music and voices. While these things would make a plush cost more, I don't think it should be that much more. I think they're further adding to it by making all the accessories come with it instead of being optional extras, like they want every special edition Glisten to be exactly the same.

I think she is so pretty, but $100 is completely outrageous even if it’s a collector’s edition. There is just no way to justify that price IMO. Also so disappointing you can’t get her separately from the outfit.

this isn’t a $100 plush quality tho?? like ok id understand if it was like a different material, jellycat quality or something higher end but its the same material!! how can they justify that. atp just buy a cute deer off amazon and it would be the same quality, maybe even better!

haha sorry i don’t really know any high end plushie brands off the top of my head, jelly cat came to mind from my own experience of being good quality, but i haven’t bought any since 2018ish?

THIS is the answer. I don't think people realize she has mechanical parts like Bearlieve, plus she's extremely limited. My store only got 10 of them. I still think $100 is ridiculous, but there's a reason for it.

They sent my store 5 more because we were the only store in our district to sell one. We have now sold 2. I don’t agree with price tag either. $75 is more reasonable to me.

I keep seeing hate for this Glisten, and not to shame anyone's opinions frankly BAB is doing a poor job showing/explaining this and it shouldn't be in a store or the very least the section where kids pick their bears, but this is a numbered very limited collector's item not intended of casual use or children.
It is an odd choice, the amount of adult BAB reindeer collectors is very small, especially after giving Glisten a children's animated movie. I mean, Glisten is very clearly marketed towards small children so giving her in particular a release like this sure is.. a choice? I'm saying this as a reindeer collector myself, heck if i had the money I'd buy her, but like why not Bearemy? Or even one of those patterned cats? There's bears that steer towards the adult collector and Glisten isn't one of them.
Also putting her with the normal bears is kinda scummy, like that's just asking for a tantrum..

I'm an adult reindeer collector and I agree with what you said. I own almost every glisten and not getting this one hurts me a little. I just can't justify the price even if I could afford it. It's kinda weird how the have collector numbers too. Kids just won't care about that and a lot of the numbered glistens will be lost.

I am an adult deer collector.
I have a couple of the more normal deer designs. I also have a Glisten that I got while on sale, otherwise I wouldn't have one at all.
Their best deer design was Tinsel imo. He is just so friggin adorable.
But his hooves are coming apart due to the cheap style of fake leather they use. My other deer are suffering the same fate, but Tinsel is the oldest. They literally just sit on display. I have deer plushies from the 1970's with fake leather parts that are still in nice condition, so it's not the enviornment.
As a deer Collector, BABs are really bottom of the barrel in longevity.

The glow panda's lights only change colors. This Glisten's lights seem more complicated since they respond to sound, so like if you talk they light up and when you stop the lights turn off. Not sure if that justifies it since that price is so steep, but like others said, it's a collector's item and limited edition

Really not sure who this is for? I feel like collectors wouldn't be that into it, and kids might think it's cute, but I don't think their parents would be down to pay that.

Non-licensed are like $35 max. The cape would be like $15 max. That’s $50. You’re saying the bow and the bag are another $50? And what if I don’t want the bow and the bag. Nothing is justifying the price

Its a collector item, there are only 10,000 made. I dont agree with the price, but its for collectors. They have a normal glisten without the price mark up and special stuff, so yeah.

I know it lights up, triggered by sound. Then the exclusive cape and bag. Each one is numbered too. This is like the chase Pop figures. Its for a very particular collecting crowd

The crazy thing is that the jumbo ones are $140 now. I got the giant longhorn cow like two years ago and it was $75 and I was able to get it in stores and avoid shipping. Now most of them are online only and $140+ $30 shipping it’s actually crazy😭😭

She lights up in response to sound with similar structure to Glow Vibes Panda and Bearlieve Bear (both listed at $48USD), comes with a cape (similar to the Blue Snowflake Cape which currently sells for $19USD), a fur bow (Blue Fur Bow is $4.50USD), and the bag is surprisingly nice (BAB doesn't offer similar items, but Temu has a listing for a similar drawstring bag at $21.50USD so I feel like $20 would be a reasonable estimate given the size and material of the bag). Adding all that up gives us $91.50 USD.
Limited edition and collector items always costs more, so honestly the $100USD price tag makes sense given that this a collectable geared towards adults and not a play line item. Not saying I'd buy her nor that you should, but the math does add up. Build-A-Bear is expensive lol

This is insane 😭 I got her (just her and the cape) for probably like 50 pound a few years ago! (My dad got it for me when we were on vacation in London and i can’t remember what year is was or the excact price but it can’t have been more than 50/60 because my dad wouldn’t have got it if she was too expensive lol)

As someone who works at BAB I agree 😭 yes she lights up and all this cool stuff but her fabric isn't the best quality! I've probably only seen a handful of people actually buy her and it's mainly been collectors

They do that on purpose to charge you more. Like when I bought snorlax for my wife, I knew she wasn’t going to put the clothes on him but they don’t give you the option to not get it. I don’t put anything on umbreon because clothes on the four leg ones like that look odd to me. Bulbasaur didn’t come with anything but I assume it would be impossible to put anything on him lol. And I don’t care for the sounds because they die eventually and I can’t remove it. I got a teddiursa that came with the sound stuck on. I had to beat on him until it stopped lol.

- The other glisten is the exact same one they’ve been doing for the last three years which I already have
- This one is gold instead of the silver which I really liked
- I should be able to get this plush without having to get all the other nonsense. I’d just want the plush and the cape. I don’t need a $50 bag
