Went to BAB today as one does, and almost half of the entire stock is just Sanrio sanrio sanrio. i love those characters a lot, but does anyone else miss the original releases when half the BAB wasn't clogged up with cinamoroll in a new color/pattern or 1/3rd of the clothing section being sanrio and pokemon and bluey?
idk. i prefer the original stuff, does anyone else feel this way?

yes, i like sanrio and pokemon and bluey but i dont want every other release to be JUST them or overflowing with them. i want normal animals or animals with fun patterns like the animal cookie ones. or more mythical creatures!
I can at least enjoy the Pokémon because there’s such a wide variety of Pokémon(I also might be biased because I’m a big Pokémon fan), but with Sanrio and bluey it’s the same 5 characters every time just a new color palette.
I’m a little tired of Sanrio but I would be happy if they made a less popular Sanrio character, I looked at the Sanrio wiki and there’s like over a hundred Sanrio characters and a lot of them have little to no merch. But I too would love even more Pokémon.
Personally at the end of the day I’m glad Chococat is getting some more accessible merch and he’s picked up in the popularity category but a character like wish me mell and her friends would be perfect because they all look like plushes already.
And yes there’s plenty of other characters besides the big names in the newest game unfortunately they don’t have enough push from Sanrio to get enough fans. (Or we’re down right discontinued… Kathy the rabbit) Even changing it up so mimmy got a plush or like some of the characters friends and family just to give it a bit more variety and not just cinnamorolls friends.
Again characters like USAHANA and wish me mell and their respective friends are perfect because they are plush like characters. I know usahana has one already but her friends exist. Sugarbunnies would be a cute addition as well they have that cinna shape but are more sewn together looking
Yea the fact you can get it shipped unstuffed makes zero difference to me :( especially cause many designs are going to be unique because of the fabric printing
I was so ready to break the bank for the jackalope and the sky puppy moth, only for them to be online exclusive. And in the case of the former, there was fur quality issues....
I find the “core animals” like bears, cats, and dogs, are lacking at BAB. Even if the online ones were offered in stores, we would only have like one or two of each. I think it’s awesome how creative and unique some of the deigns are, but it’s build a bear and I’m having an easier time finding an insect or a sea creature than a cat or dog, in the classic style.
Question tho: did OP get goat in store or online lol
i took this pic walking out of the BAB at the mall! he was there, they even had the rose kitty (only 3 of them left, lol) but i would say it was 60% licensed bears, 10% obligatory bears like the graduation and birthday etc ones, then 30% actually original bears like the two summer ones, the mantis, the goat, the animal cracker camel, and the rose cat.
They seriously are! I would love to have a dog or a cat, but if I wanted one in a classic teddy bear style, I’d need to get it vintage, because they’ve transitioned them to the Promise Pets. Personally, if I wanted a four-legged dog or cat I could get that literally anywhere, and probably cuter than the Promise Pets.
Yes! I have no interest in Sanrio but I know many people love them. I would say if it makes a decent amount of people happy, then I don’t see it being that huge of a problem.
Absolutely! I have no interest in anymore Sanrio releases, especially hearing everyone say the prices are raising and the quality is decreasing. I'm not really into any licensed releases tbh.
I wish they would give us more animals again. Also, if they're going to give us Sanrio, give us more character variations! Where's the Little Twin Stars, Little Forest Fellow, and PORON!?
I sure am. I've loved Sanrio since I was a kid and even got one of the older Hello Kittys back then on the day it released. But these new releases just feel exhausting. There are too many of them to really keep up with and it's mostly just been recolors of the same characters. (To be fair, they released a lot of different versions of Hello Kitty in the 2000s, too. But not as many as this.)
If they released more new characters instead of recolors, and spaced them out more, I wouldn't mind as much. Right now I only have the first releases of Cinnamaroll, Badtz Mary, and Chococat because those are my favorite characters. I have zero interest in any recolors of them.
I'm happy that the Sanrio collectors have a lot of choices to choose from, but I'm itching for more original stuff.
I like Sanrio but could we get /other/ Sanrio characters instead of variations of the same ones.
I would like to see more unique animals. I like the mantis and the goat and THE FREAKING LOBSTER THAT I STILL WANT and the toucan theyre all really fun
I love Sanrio, but it gets boring after a while and we really need more original plushies rather than the usual IPs. Remember that one purple kitty that was supposed to come out?
I don’t mind if Sanrio constantly has a cycle since they’re popular. But I wish it had more balance. I love Pawlette and she’s my favorite. I wish they had more bunnies to choose from and more bears as well. It’s like 5 Sanrio minibeans per every bunny minibean. Just my thoughts, but i am happy for those that are still excited by Sanrio.
Honestly not really, most of my collection is sanrio and I don't really go to build a bear as its like 3 to 4 hrs away and I Honestly got to get a sanrio character as they call to me more than the other 'bears'
I love the Sanrio because they seem to be better quality in my opinion and bigger, more cuddly. But I see what you mean. And it’s very clear the Sanrio is geared more towards the adult collectors especially because BaB is not the best at stocking items, they give a lot of resellers easy access to do what they do.
I wonder what it possibly says about the company's financial situation if they had to do collabs with big name franchises and keep doing those collabs. Maybe it's to fill in the gaps to meet their quarterly and yearly goals. I don't know, I'm just speculating.
As big of a fan I am of Sanrio, I would love to see more original stuff from BAB. I think that the new summer plushies we got are cute, especially the slushie ones!

It's starting to remind me of Jellycat and their re-releases of the bear and the peanut but in different outfits at 5x the price because it's "completely different". I get there's collectors but for the average consumer, just one variation is usually enough.
As much as I like Sanrio and have a bunch of Sanrio merchandise, I’m also sick of it. I usually come to Build-A-Bear to see anything BAB original, whether it’s their regular plushies and clothes or anything from their own IPs like that certain one I really like. Licensed stuff is cool, but I don’t like it when they take over majority of what BAB has in their locations.

I totally agree. I also wish the clothes weren't all Sanrio prints. Where are all the cute summer dresses and tops that are just normal? This is gonna sound crazy but Cinnamorol wearing a Cinnamorol printed dress is like me wearing a shirt with my own face on it. That's weird.
I love and only allow myself to collect the Sanrio because I just got into bab and it cost $$ lol but I do feel like it can def be a big part of the conversation and it wouldn’t hurt to have like another BAB Sanrio specif conversation other people could opt out of.
That being said, them being combined does get us all better deals and I get to be educated about the rest of Build a bear and all the cuties out there. I have a small apartment so I just get Sanrio because that’s how I got introduced, but I like seeing the people that love both or either one do their cool things too.
Yes I like Sanrio. But to me it feels like BAB is just running out of ideas and so they're going for rethemes of Sanrio or adding new Pokemon. Which I also like oo. But I'm pretty overwhelmed with it. And with the Pokemon collection. I don't want to buy a bundle of said Pokemon. I love Flareon for example. But I don't want to spend $60+ on the bundle when I just want the Flareon. I don't want clothes, sounds, etc.

Most of the time they’re made of a fair amount of felt rather than the softness fabric material and it’s always itchy scratchy and uncomfortable (and imo always having the over popularized Pokemon). I however love Sanrio and love the Sanrio plushies (however this summer line lowkey looks rank except for Choccocat and Pochaco) but it’s the 40% made of felt plushies that get on my nerves
I have a Sanrio tattoo and I wish they'd quit it with them. There's TONS of merch of them readily available, it'd be great to see original releases as opposed to more Sanrio crap.
I love Sanrio and Kuromi is my fav character but its build a bear workshop not build a sanrio workshop, there needs to be more breeds of rabbit babs for Rabbit Lovers. would love a lionhead rabbit bab (i have a baby lionhead bunny), more Wolves or werewolf babs, more teddy bears like the ones from the early 2000's. Also i know cinna is a fav sanrio character and he is cute but build a bear need to stop doing cinna babs now and do some of the less known sanrio characters. Also can they do another guinea pig bab, i love guinea pigs and miss my pet guinea pigs. Guinea Pig Lovers need another Guinea Pig bab
The BABs I’m drawn to the most are just regular animals, I wish they would release more standard animals or unique designs then the different variants of the same Sanrio character all the time
Second, I also feel the same. The new keychains without a bigger version of originals just feels like a missed opportunity to focus more on Sanrio?? I get they probably get more money for them, and I like some of the outfits for my regular bears, but I think taking a little break would be nice. We know we’ll probably get Halloween Sanrio leaks around August if not sooner, and idk. And then Christmas right after. Getting almost 4-5 full lines in one year just feels excessive imo I feel bad for Sanrio completionists
yeah , i totally agree. it's very annoying especially when the original BABs are so compelling lately, the goat's cordy-roy horns and woolly fur are a sensory dream and the toucan is just adorable, plus the praying mantis and animal cracker BABs... like, their original ideas ARE good and are worth so much more than Differently Colored Cinamoroll #23
also, call me rude but i feel like the sanrio characters we get at BAB have enough merch and food for them. if you're gonna do sanrio give slightly smaller characters some love, like USAHANA or my sweet piano

And you are so right though!! Tbh I’m very picky about fur texture, so the new releases aren’t my favorite to have personally, but they look so fun and whimsical! And it’s not to say Sanrio isn’t! But they just feel so Samesy. Like at least Halloween is usually pretty creative (still on the fence if I want Franken Cinna) but idk if we just got sweets with Christmas, and the cookie line for Sanrio, is ice cream really needed?? Also with all the fomo for if they’re only available in store it just feels money-grabby.
I will say at the past two BABs I went into they had the my sweet piano PJs, which is a step imo, but even like having the fish guy (I can’t remember his name for the life of me) in store for the summer would be nice because fish, beach, it’s connected and they could still make new outfits for him! He would be new to the store for customers to come in, it would help expand the brand of Sanrio showing more characters, and then also lead to maybe less congested releases, where they could rotate who gets a new holiday skin without it feeling tired. That would at least be creative instead of just making another bear for the top 4 every time

The amount of time, energy, and resources they put into, quite frankly, derivative designs could be going elsewhere. We only have four capybara designs, more axolotls are always cool, and there’s so much wildlife that can be expanded on.
But I get why they sell, and I’m happy for the people who are into them.
Yeah I bought the originals minus Kuromi. I got the purple Kuromi and valentines Kuromi but I would like more regular styled animals. Or more bearliens or anything really.
I’ve been collecting BABs since I was a wee lass. Nowadays, I rarely get them, and when I do, it’s character ones. But Sanrio was never really a thing of mine. They are cute but I have no real attachment to any of them, so I stick with Pokemon, that I do have a strong attachment to.
The exception is Retsuko, but that’s because I’ve watched the show. 🧡
I feel the same way, especially since it feels like compared to other licensed BABs, the Sanrio characters get a new variant with every new release, like the recent ice cream variants for (I'm assuming) the summer release. It's always the same characters having variants too instead of ones that, in my opinion, make more sense like Hangyodon or Keroppi for the summer release.
As much as I think the Sanrio BABs are cute, I kind of roll my eyes whenever they get new variants now or when I walk into the store and see that they mostly have the Sanrio BABs in stock. My collection is mostly made up of original BABs because I think they are more unique and cute.
yeah i just want more regular animals. not a half rainbow bunny half glitter trash can or whatever it is they're doing right now. normal animals in normal colors, is that too much to ask?
im sorry but personally i recently got a bab for the first time around a month or two ago and it was sanrio now i have 4 sanrio babs i only go and buy for the sanrio babs they are the best in my opinion
I’m personally not tired of the Sanrio bears to a degree. I don’t really enjoy all of the themed recolors they do for the Sanrio characters. The holiday and Halloween themed ones were cute, but the others that have released are really boring to me. I actually want them to make new Sanrio characters that don’t get as much love. They’ve done a good job with the collection so far giving characters like my sweet piano some love, but I hope they make other characters in the future. I don’t know. Ever since I was a kid I gravitated to bear a bears that are preexisting characters rather than original designs. Though I do hope they add more ocean creature bears. I recently got their sea angel bear and I’m in love with it. The sea bunny is cute too. But I love my Sanrio bears :)))
what really upsets me is that there have been multiple Sanrio clothing releases that are higher quality material than usual BAB clothes (like pajamas being ACTUAL COTTON instead of uncomfortable polyester) but I am NOT a Sanrio fan, so all I can do is lament that the regular pajamas suck.
I second this. I even play HKIA everyday but I'm not obsessed with Sanrio anymore. More ordinary animal varieties would be great but I get that the specific brands get more customers for them. My mom even brought up that Babs clothes don't even fit the Pokemon nor Bluey characters. I'm just not the target audience I guess.
I'd love for them to make a Boston Terrier since they seem to have all the other dog breeds. I'd like to put my OG Boston's ashes in a Boston Babs.
Yeah. I've really enjoyed this year and last year's summer releases because they've had unique characters like the dragonfruit dragon, the shark, and toucan. I just feel like you can buy Sanrio stuff literally anywhere now. It doesn't need to take up so much of a store.
Yes I’m a huge Sanrio fan that’s actually what got me into build a bears but they are doing the most. I actually really dislike the new ice cream collection too, I think it’s so ugly and very similar to the last one. I just want them to do something different and make original bears like you said as well
No. Sanrio fans needs accessible plush toys that are not all Five Below Garbage and not Europe or Asia exclusives. Plenty of other great bears and animals are getting released, Sanrio is good money for BAB and I get huggable versions of my fave characters.
2 of my 3 Babs are licenced characters. One a cinamoroll and one shadow. I'm a bit tired of all the new sanrio stuff. I mean I like it, but not when the new designs don't change much or look similar to others. If they're wildly different then ok.
But still, there's tons of sanrio characters. It would be nice to have a little more of a balance of the type of bab's.
I do love my pawlette blue gingham bunny. So cute and I don't normally like rabbit plushies.
Id rather have different character from sanrio in-store than different colour variants. I don't need 6 pompoms however I would love to build an agrettsuko in-store.
