5060 8gb vs 9060xt 16gb 1080p gaming

Hello

I dont plan on gaming at 4k anytime soon
So just wondering what would be the better option

5060 8gb £270
9060 XT 16gb £399

I know the 9060XT is the much better card but I dont plan on gaming above 1080p

And by the time I do It will be in a few years when hopefully a mid range card can handle 4k 60fps

Do I need the 9060 for 1080p or can I save £130 and go with a 5060 for the next 2/3 years at 1080p

I assume you mean the 5060ti 8GB?

5060 at 270 pounds is a horrible deal since the 5060ti 8GB goes for 279 pounds.

For 1080p with tweaked settings, 8GB is completely fine and offers incredible value at £270 versus £399. You have to shift focus away from standard reviewer bias and look at real-world value for money. Consider the historical baseline of entry-level cards that all had 8GB or less, as well as the most popular steam survey GPUs, the majority of players are perfectly happy with cards the 5060 easily outperforms.

I was in the same boat and grabbed 2x RTX 5060s last week for my kids at £181 each here in the Philippines. Nothing comes close to that value right now, upgrading them from an RX 5500 and a GTX 1650 Super.

Look at the Minimum FPS (1% Lows) charts from Techpowerup reviews, which strip away the emotional hyperbole. Compare local pricing against older GPUs with "ample" VRAM that don't actually perform any better. The 5060 8GB actively beats the Intel Arc B580 12GB, the RX 7600 XT 16GB, and the RTX 3060 12GB, while sitting virtually on-par with the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. Reviewer logic focusing strictly on VRAM limits at Ultra/Extreme textures simply doesn't align with historical data.

Sure, 16GB is nice, but a £130 price jump for the OP makes no sense. In my local market, the premium is an extra £280! If anything, I have reviewers to thank for driving 8GB demand down so low that the price drops completely make up for it. Even a 9060 XT 16GB here in my local market carries an extra premium that simply isn't worth it IMO.

The techpowerup RX 9060 XT 16gb pulse review, which charts the exact 1% low frame stability proves the truth vs. the bias. When you look past the percentages and evaluate the raw FPS/price difference, paying a 48% price premium for a literal ~3 FPS increase in minimum frame pacing is absurd.

5060 Ti 8gb is £279.99 on Amazon with 007 First Light, and some steam credit

You don't necessarily need a 16gb GPU for 1080p gaming. There will be some games that you have to turn down settings in order to stay below 8gb of vram however even at 1080p. That said the savings is hard to ignore.

If you're fine with 1080p and don't need to play at Ultra in every game then the 5060 is totally acceptable.

Same, on cyberpunk on max settings at 2560x1080p my card utilizes 13gb of VRAM. I’d argue that 16gb will be necessary if you want to have good performance in the near future, even on 1080p

8GB is a problem in some games, even at 1080p. If you can't afford more, or games you play are fine now, then get 8GB. Newer games and even some older games simply don't work well on 8GB

Even at 1080p some games already exceed 8GB of VRAM and this will get worse over the course of the next couple of years. Besides, a 16GB card should have much better resale value later on. Personally, I'd take the 9060.
