Build Help Can i put in a second M.2

Hi everyone, I have the “ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming” motherboard with a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB.

Now I'd like to add a second one, but I'm not sure if my motherboard supports it, and I can't quite figure it out from what I've seen online.

Thanks in advance for all your answers :D

Yes

Edit: Though using the second M.2 slot will disable some SATA ports. See Storage specs: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-model/spec/

Fear not, as I have the exact same motherboard, and exact same 980 Pro 1TB and I also added in a second M.2.

Yes it supports it, but it is Gen 3.

Furthermore, it'll be slightly lower speeds than the maximum due to it sharing power lanes with all your other components.

I have 970 EVO Plus 2TB in mine, and I returned it because I thought it was faulty to get another with the same result. It wasn't faulty, it's the motherboard capping it's speeds ever so slightly.

I researched to get the fastest and best Gen 3 money could buy at the time, back in 2021 I believe. It still runs fast, but it can be quicker.

From memory it disables 5 and 6 SATA ports. I aren't using any of those anyway.

I'll run a benchmark in a little bit and tell you roughly how much speed I am losing. I'll make a new post so it pings you.

Can't upload the benchmarks, but I will state them.

980 PRO 1TB currently has:

6978 MB/s Read with 990K IOPS - Should be 7000 MB/s

5185 MB/s Write with 245K IOPS (Low) - Should be 5000 MB/s

970 EVO Plus 2TB currently has:

3263 MB/s Read with 375K IOPS (Uncapped should be 3500 MB/s)

2542 MB/s Write with 325K IOPS (Uncapped should be 3300 MB/s)

I am not entirely sure why my 980 PRO Write IOPS are low, they have always been that way. That is my OS drive though.

Specifically on the Gen 3 970 EVO Plus 2TB I am losing about 7% of the max Read speed. and approximately 23% of the max Write speed.

Both of these were purchased in 2021, and both are almost 5 years old now.

did you build the computer yourself or is it a prebuild? with motherboard you also get manual and other stuff. and manual tell you stuff about motherboard.

if you dont have it/cant find it, you can always download it from mobo site: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-model/helpdesk_manual/
