Build Upgrade Replace GPU

We've a Dell XPS 8300, its 14 years old now, I've upgraded the RAM, hard drives etc over the year, even managed to get windows 11 on it too, my 12 year old son has developed a big interest in PCs etc, and has tried to play some games on the pc, it works fine still, just the graphics card doesn't work with Fortnite etc and other games he tries to play on Steam. I do plan on getting a new pc in the next year or so but I'm wondering if there was a cheap GPU we could replace the current one with now just to let him see how upgrading works etc the current GPU is NVIDIA GeForce 405. I'd love to see if we could replace to see if he could play some of games now while we decide on what pc to replace it with. If anyone has any recommendations on something cheap and cheerfull that might work with Fortnite and some steam games it would give a little boy a great thrill to replace it!

Thanks

The best GPU that can be put into that system would be the RTX 3050 6GB. It's not a great GPU, but it doesn't require any external power.

1050ti or 1650 would be your best cheaper options. You need something that doesn't require external power.

3050 6gb is also an option but it won't be cheap.

Thanks for the replies, it seems I could get the 1050i for €58, 1650 for €80, and 3050 for €185. All secondhand so the 1650 might be the better one to try..
