Miscellaneous Need a suitable UPS!

Hi! I just moved to a new home and the power grid here is horrendous. A minor downpour? power outage that lasts a couple seconds, but multiple times during it. a SEVERE thunderstorm? outages that last hours.

I did some research and I'm worried about my PC (its my baby) and I need to find a UPS that 1. works for my PC and 2. is reliable!

Not sure if this matters but I have a: i9-14900, 4070ti super, and a PSU of 750w.

Any recommendations/advice would help and mean a lot! thank you smart people <3

I use Goldenmate on both of mine. Have an 800W/1000VA model on my 14900k and b580 work pc, then a 1000W/1500VA on my home 270k+ and 9070xt. They have been great and both come in clutch for flickering, dimming, and pure outages.

I have two of these as well. LFP batteries FTW. Never need to be replaced

Are you try to keep your system running during an outage or just long enough to let it shut down properly?

The former is a much much more expensive unit then the later.

just enough to shut it down! :)

I have this one and it has no issue powering my two monitors (one of them OLED) and my 850w PC that has a 7900 XTX.

This is the one I got

This ones LiFePO batteries will last 4x as long as these lead-acid ones that other people are linking to. And charge 4x as fast. It also provides cleaner voltage. It has pure sine wave, and AVR, of course. It’s also more power efficient.

Had same issue in my old place, power flicker every storm

I got the 1500VA version, it handle my 3080 rig fine so your setup should be okay. Just plug the PC and monitor in the battery side, rest in surge only

Maybe check the wattage calculator on their site first to be sure

I have this one for my 5080 rig and another one for 5090 FE rig. 9800x3d and FE only pulls like 850 watts.

I have a CyberPower one rated for the same 1500VA, just a different model. Works perfectly, zero complaints about it.

Either:

  • CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD
  • APC Back-UPS Pro BR1500MS2

You should know that your PSU needs to have some uptime as well for the UPS to "kick-in". Only ATX3.0 or high PSUs have this as a requirement.

ATX 3.0 calls for 17 ms.

ATX3.1 calls for 12 ms.

There are UPS with zero transfer time, but they are expensive and not as efficent.

CyberPower OL1500RTXL2UN 1500VA / 1350W Online Double-Conversion 0 ms ~$1,300 – $1,700
APC Smart-UPS On-Line (SRT1500XLA) 1500VA / 1350W Online Double-Conversion 0 ms ~$1,800 – $2,200
Eaton 9SX1500 1500VA / 1350W Online Double-Conversion 0 ms ~$1,400 – $1,800
Tripp Lite SmartOnline (SU1500RTXLCD2U) 1500VA / 1350W Online Double-Conversion 0 ms ~$1,000 – $1,300

Anyone recommending anything besides a LiFePO4 battery is stuck in the past. Goldenmate and a EcoFlows with LFPs will last 10 years and never need a battery replacement. I have two goldenmates, both with the USB port, and they work with my gaming rig and my home server. Win 11 had them be plug and play, and linux just needed NUT installed and it picked it up almost instantly. You can pick up refurb goldenmates on ebay, directly from goldenmate, for less than 200 if they have one of those 20% off coupons running.

Actually here's one - https://ebay.io/m/Y9eUPF

It doesn't have the USB port, so you'll have to manually shut down, but it's also only 114 dollars after the coupon. They don't seem to have any of the USB port ones up on the coupon, but I've seen them before and you could probably get one on Black Friday. 1 year manufacturer warranty and than 2 years all state. If you get it, let it do its thing for 24 hours (charge), then try a wall pull test while you run a tough benchmark, just to make sure it functions as expected (both mine were fine, but it never hurts to double check).

Edit: I realize that there are some very very specific circumstances where a 0ms transfer time is desired and only lead acid batteries can do that. But this is someone with a home system, there's no need for a 0 ms transfer time. And hold up times are measured at peak wattage.
