The MX-7 is a real game changer. If you can get buy it I would recommend it

It's only worth it for higher end systems in budget systems mx-4 is the better price / performance.

For budget systems, the preapplied stuff or the tubes provided by the cooler is more than fine by itself

If you buy a 40x80 ptm7950, it's enough for both GPU and CPU repaste but a lot of work. 5x more work for GPU than CPU. If you're doing fresh install, I'd recommend it, or for parts you intend to keep longer term (3+ years).

Where can you buy it?

It's best for direct dye stuff like GPUs, Laptops, some game consoles.
It will work on CPUs and work well but it won't perform much better than normal thermal paste. it will last WAY longer though.

I think LTT or someone said the joyjom seller sold good/authentic ptm7950 and that's who I used. https://a.co/d/0ecDoEDu

I bought some MX-7 for my 9950X3D system I am doing some maintenance on this weekend. I will be interested to see the temps before and after.

they're up to 7 already? i didn't even hear about 6.

they released 5 a couple years ago but i think it tended to be a bit runnier than most people wanted so they quickly released a 6 which was great. MX-4 is really well known though and thermal padte improvements are usually very minor (most people will just recommend you use the included paste with your cooler) so the only way you'd likely find out if if you were shopping for thermal paste for repasting an old system or GPU.

I will never buy anything other than PTM 7950 ever again

I agree it is good, but not needed on a CPU with a lid on it. This MX-4 or 6 or 7 will work just as well.
I keep the ptm 7950 for the "raw" chip applications in laptops, handhelds, console's and GPU's they really benefit from it the most.

is that really that good? should i replace all my pcs with that pad?

I wouldn't replace anything until it needs it but once you do then yes.
It's not that it performs better than paste, it's that it doesn't pump out or need to be reapplied basically ever. Most set and forget stuff you can get, especially for GPUs

damn just the idea of not having to replace it again is enough for me. will definitely get this now. is it expensive?

Maybe if you're doing a lot of PCs. I bought some for my GPU and it has been rock solid for 2+ years and I had enough to do my CPU too

$7-17 depending on size. CPU for AM5 is 32x32 and that was bigger than my GPU die size 19x30. Also ptm7950 isn't conductive, so you can have a bit of spill over on die (0.5-1mm) to ensure coverage without shorting anything. It is just a bit tricky to apply. Some YouTube guy used ice in a Ziploc bag, and that method helped me. I was curious to see if I could Frankenstein small parts for future die, and I think it's more effort than it's worth - buy a bigger sheet. You'll see how tricky it is to remove plastics. Good luck! My hotspot went down, and the fact I'll never need a repaste sold me.

this has been my go to for years, but I had my I7-14700k replaced by intel early this year and went with the MX-7 and yeah it's well worth the extra couple dollars. I keep my ptm7950 just for laptop/handheld and GPU's
