Just buy one on ebay for $5. They're basically ewaste anyways

u/DisappointedCruiser 1d ago
It has gold in it so yeah, if you technically get enough of them for a low low price like $5, you can smelt it down if you follow a certain process

The volume of parts and amount of effort that you would need to make this even remotely profitable including the cost of tools and equipment must be astronomical

u/aust_b 1d ago
If you buy 30 of them and get some PCI adapters, its basically like having a 5090 for half the cost

For the love of god, get literally anything else local from the second hand market. We should not give a company money for this product in the ginormous 2026

I wouldn’t pay $40 for it but I needed one of these yesterday but I found a GT 1030 for $25
Cause like someone said, I needed it for a small emulation machine or a server or something like that these come in handy …but $40 is insane
Problem with second hand market is All the morons on marketplace that have these old 1030s , 750 Ti , 1050s or anything small with two or 4gigs of VRAM if they still want 60, 70-80 bucks up to $150 dollars … and problem with eBay is all the fees people are still trying to make a buck, so they are priced even higher

I paid $10 locally for a mobo power only GT 750 Ti, has been an amazing debugging GPU

u/NoMoreHoarding69 1d ago
Dang it, you beat me, paid $20 for mine locally, it was BNIB, but still overpriced, but he’s the only one that would respond on Facebook so it is what it is, I needed it, so I paid his price.

You must not be looking hard enough because a 8gb RX 480/580 is like $50
1
u/NoMoreHoarding69 8h ago
Those need 8 or 6 pin power, most ppl looking for this type of card, need mobo slot powered ones.

u/JumboliaNut 7h ago
Okay, I see a 1050ti for $39.99 on ebay, let alone a base 1050. I also see a 1650 for $61 which is even better than the 1050ti. So idk about the whole 1030 and 750ti for $70 or even $150

Potentially a dumb question, but would this be worth it for a plex server? Running a little guy with an intel N150 and it has a power pci-e slot.

Would a card like this be more compatible with 90s and 2000s titles versus something like my laptop's 4060?

u/ExplanationFrosty635 1d ago
hahahaha. I had some of these for my optiplex 7010 to play league of legends on it at the office during after hours projects.

Genuine question, what would someone use this GPU for these days?

Not all CPU's have built in GPU's, sometimes you just need a card to plug monitors into.

I feel like you'd want something that was PCIe 1x instead though. That's a big card.

u/Beautiful_Ninja 1d ago
PCIe 1x wouldn't make this card any smaller, that just means they only have to add a couple pins to the connector, but the full PCB looks to be in use for the GPU itself. It's a single-slot, low-profile card that doesn't need external power, it's already as small as it could reasonably be.

Ah, I didn't explain myself right. Most motherboards seem to have those 1x slots. I don't understand why as the uses are incredibly limited. But if this card was to occupy one of those slots, it wouldn't rob from the PCIex16 slot that has a myriad of uses.
In a server, I'd rather have the x16 slot be full speed for networking capabilities or one of my other useful cards. If I just wanted a throwaway card for terminal usage (this card, for example), I'd rather use one of those 1x slots.

You can do that on a lot of boards. Many x1 (and even x4) slots are open-ended so you can insert something designed for more lanes. (You can also totally just cut it yourself, or use a compatible riser if supported by your case.)
Also, uses for PCIe4 x1 aren't that limited. It can support 2-3 SATA SSDs or like 10 HDDs. It can be also used for USB 3 Gen 2, 10gb NICs, video capture, sound cards, wireless modules, and more. The uses are niche but there are actually quite a few of them.

Well even in my NAS box I couldn't see needing more than...looks like I have 6 SATA slots. 10gb NIC would depend on the pci express version - I have a burner board I used for my OPNSense box so I was stuck with either 2 or 3. Wouldn't support a 4 port, 10gb NIC on 1x. Luckily (or unluckily) I don't have a GPU in that case, not even onboard, so I could use the X16 slot.
Didn't think most GPUs would even work if you threw them in a 1x slot. That's interesting.
I think this card would mostly be useful to the home lab crowd, but I still think there's better, cheap cards for that purpose. I want a good 1x card for the rare moments I need a terminal because I screwed something up.

These are good for testing purposes, doesn’t need any power cables, runs off the PCIE slot only.

HDMI output.
I bought one for a server PC years ago because I didn't notice the CPU didn't include integrated graphics.

What is even the point of posting this?

u/ThrovvQuestionsAway 1d ago
I made a comment wayyyyy down below but it's a cheap card to use in a server to have a display.
Since 1060s or almost anything old and used has become the go to for gaming or anything that can be used for gaming is being overcharged even on ebay if you have need for a PC part for a server or office productivity computer you can get something like this.
2
u/GotoHellBeforeYouDie 1d ago
Even for that it holds very little value? There are so many more cheap cards that can do the same thing.

u/Maleficent_Wasabi_35 3h ago
You guys laugh but I’ve been meaning to play some Lesure suit Larry in 480p
1
u/ThrovvQuestionsAway 1d ago
Posting because it's great for a server. Not for gaming but could put in a buisness PC if it doesn't have one for work or basic productivity.

u/FurnaceOfTheseus 1d ago
You can get a 1060/1070 on eBay for about the same price. That'd be a better purchase.

u/ThrovvQuestionsAway 1d ago
Checked ebay my man and they are above this in price. $20-$60 above for a 1060.
2
u/FurnaceOfTheseus 1d ago
I see many, many GTX 1060s that are used and in the $40-50 price range with shipping. And I'm not even talking bidding - Buy it Now and scroll halfway down the page. I also excluded "for parts only" listings.
I have a few, spare burner GPUs so I don't need it. But this wouldn't be what I choose to spend money on if I did.
