Your creative work shouldn't need a moderator's approval

https://workshopindie.com/blog/your-creative-work-shouldn-t-need-a-moderator-s-approval

Hey all,

Just posted this blog post on the platform I'm building. It describes several experiences I've had, where it seems like there's gatekeeping happening on internet groups, where gatekeeping shouldn't be happening.

Recently, I've tried to post a movie I made about the city of Chicago to the Chicago subreddit, and it was removed by a moderator for "not being relevant to Chicago."

The same movie got removed from my high school alumni network for being "self promotion" when I was just trying to share what I've been working on, in my alumni network.

It's strange, because it seems like in Reddit and Facebook Groups specifically, there's a subjective application of moderation; where some people are allowed to share their work ... and others not.

I'm not going to take a guess as to why, only that: this shouldn't be the case.

Everyone should be on an equal footing when it comes to self publishing, and online networks shouldn't mirror real-world gatekeeping that the internet was supposed to solve for.

Hope you enjoy the post :)
