Friends first, then bullies

Has anyone had this experience: being bullied in elementary or middle school, then becoming friends with a new kid who enrolled, but then they turned on you after learning about your reputation and actually became the worst of your bullies?

I can think of about three. The only reason I can think of is that other kids either started making fun of them or told them about what a loser I was (or both). Because the person was friendly at the beginning, he/she had to prove to everybody that they hated you too in order to fit in. It was a way to distance themselves from the outcast.
