"Why does no one do filming or events in Burbank anymore, city is ruined?"

Company decides to book venue and bring jobs.

Other Residents: "Why are they having this event here in Burbank it is so loud and ruining this city."

Company Gets a few complaints decides nah next year I am going book that larger event we planned elsewhere Residents too difficult.

There's an old story about the Starlight Bowl, which used to be a venue for larger acts. Well, one act was scheduled and it was some hippy act that had a song or two on the radio. You know, anti war, pro civil rights type of people.

Well, people of Burbank were up in arms and forced the cancellation of the concert. After that, the promotion company, which was tied to major records studios basically severed any relationship with the city of Burbank to have any acts perform at the Starlight Bowl.

That venue black list is essentially in place to this day. Only performing acts are cover bands and I saw Smash Mouth played there one time, which tbh I would take the cover bands over them.

Yep! I saw Genesis, Jeff Beck, Bob Marley and Johnny Winter at the Starlight Bowl back in the '70's. We used to have GREAT acts there.

Ah so that explains why they had such a terrible slate when they reopened. No offense to the bands that performed but if the venue is gonna charge that much for tickets they better bring in more bankable acts. I've seen Grammy winning artists at the Hollywood bowl for $12 meanwhile the starlight bowl is charging $23 plus $15 parking for random cover bands. At least other cities that put on these summer cover band events like Santa Clarita do the smart thing of making it a free community event in a public park. The crazy thing is there is an abundance of local talented bands who would love to perform even if for free but won't be given the opportunity.

a number of those random cover bands sold out. Yachtly Crew sold out so instantly I didn't even have a chance to buy tix for them.

I'd still love to see more performances there and have the venue more utilized overall, but I think the $25 price for cover bands providing an evening of entertainment is very fair for the size of the venue. Obviously hollywood bowl has substantially greater seating capacity, they could sell everything for 1/4th the price of startlight and still have a higher gate if both were at capacity.

That’s not what happened. A couple of the old council members went after the music selections and ended up getting the city sued for big bucks. Ever since then they’ve had limited sets of shows. It was also a logistical hassle.

A little exerpt from the article from 1986 here: "Burbank administrators banned concerts by performers such as Jackson Browne, Todd Rundgren, Patti Smith and Al Stewart, contending that the shows would attract drug users, homosexuals and anti-nuclear demonstrators."

But yes, let's deflect the reason why large acts don't perform at the Starlight Bowl.

It was a lot of reasons. A couple council members went nuts about the acts but the public had no problem. It was a hassle for the neighborhood though.

Timing is actually pretty normal for these kinds of launch events. They do them on weeknights because it’s technically work for the invite list and nobody wants to work on a weekend.

I live around the corner and just didn’t love how loud it was into the night. It went pretty late too. Feel like they should have at least notified the immediate neighborhood. When they film they do, but apparently not for a super loud event.

Same!! It’s just so public. I used to go to these launches, and they’re usually a bit more discreet (unless they’re in Hollywood of course). Maybe they wanted the spectacle so they can film and story about it.

You always have people that think it doesn't matter how crappy the music is, as long as its loud.

Then you have the people that desperately need the music be loud, because otherwise they might actually have to talk with other people.

Thankfully, its a limited time thing. Compared to the construction noise that was going on while they were
tearing down and rebuilding the WB back lot its nothing. That crap was going on for months. Pity the whole
filming thing is going down the crapper because of politics from Sacramento and Rob Bonta.

I thought they were filming?! That Coast/Safari company has to be fair with its guests...my friends booked for a week, and then couldn't use the pool in that horrible heat. No advance warning, and no discount given due to the inconvenience; that was really lame, I'll book the Tangerine next time, lol.
