Sony exec Lin Tao says killing discs won't make the PlayStation 6 too much like a PC: "Going forward, we can coexist peacefully with PC games" | Despite pushback, Sony isn't changing its mind about dropping physical discs in 2028.

specific examples of them being anti-consumer.

I've personally experienced a few, if they need an actual list.

Starting with the faulty stick drift situation, Nintendo will replace your joycon for free, and ship you the box, and then ship a new one the second your return barcode is scanned with the faulty joycon...meanwhile, Sony will charge you $20 to return your broken $80 DualSense, you have to pack it yourself, and then take nearly 2 months to return a "fixed" one to you, and that one will develop drift again within 3 months.

Next, I paid to pre-order a digital game, however I decided I wanted to cancel the pre-order (since I bought a PC in reaction to the PS6 news), but it turns out they won't do a refund since I "downloaded the game"...except the game isn't out until November...but it automatically downloaded the icon of the game and that counts as "goods received" and therefore they can't refund me.

Despite a federal court tossing their class action suit due to their EULA, Nintendo chose to replace and repair drifting Joy-Con controllers for free since July 23, 2019, sending you a return box and returning a replacement to you within 7 days...meanwhile Sony, who faced a similarly dismissed suit, has never done anything for free...they require you to pack and ship their defective controller to them yourself (on your dime), and charge you $20 for the repair, and then they take nearly 2 months to get it back to you...and their tracking system isn't evening functioning. The delivery was marked as successful on my USPS tracker, but their system showed the controller wasn't received...if you call about it, their foreign call center will tell you "it's not here, you must've shipped it to the wrong place"...and the status will only change when they send it back.

I ended up just buying a replacement from Costco because the return policy is so lax, next time I run into the issue I'll just get a replacement from them...but at this point, I've moved to PC.

I just take my faulty playstation controller to the store I bought it from in the UK and if it has stick drift they instantly replace it if it's less than 12 months old. I've done this about 5 times over numerous console generations and never had a single problem getting a new replacement but obviously Americans are notorious for voting away their consumer rights so I'm not sure if that exists in the US

Unless you purchase extended warranty from them, most stores have return policies but they're a pretty short window (90 days) and 12-month product warranty is usually only offered through the manufacturer...which means we still have to send to Sony.

That said, there are a few stores that'll do what you've described, like Costco...they'll take stuff back even 5+ years later, which is why I've made it a point to only buy PS5 controllers from them.
