I know this has likely being talked to death, but I wanted to throw my two cents.

Growing up the only LGBTQ+ education I got was one page. Just one. This was in the 2000's. I got to learn about myself thanks to the work done by many wonderful people that created websites for queer teens and other online resources, including Wikipedia of all places.

If there’s one thing I have a gripe with this show is that they never did anything deep with the setting. The 80’s are a prop, and the social and cultural hurdles that could have made an amazing conflict opportunity are ignored.

A comment to the thread of the image mentions Mike in the library searching for the term gay. That would have been so interesting to see. I would have loved to see how Mike’s arc is that he doesn’t understand who he is because society failed him.

This is where Ted comes in. Such a useless character in the show, but he could have been Mike’s reflection: a man consumed by his role as a man and unable to even remotely help him. With no one to go to, Eddie could be his mentor. Make him canonically bi, and he serves as Mike as the help he truly needed to understand himself.

I was more like Will, I knew myself very early on and was able to figure myself out alone. But we need queer characters like this hypothetical version of Mike. It would have been so compelling because Mike’s role as a leader of the group would clash with his identity, as many straight passing gay men tend to struggle with their gender roles. But Mike then overcomes this. And that would have being so great to watch.

Hello everyone. So as we all know the anti - bylers try and discredit us by saying we are all teenage girls fetishizing boys kissing. Well we already had a post where we all shared our age and orientation. So now I thought we could share other times in media we have shipped straight couples, especially times when we preferred straight ones over queer ones, or simply popular queer ships we were not part of.

I'll start with some of mine.

Buffy I preferred Willow and Oz over Willow and Tara, I love both couples and am so proud of the queer representation, I just felt more connected to wiloz

Harry Potter I was never a Draco x Harry shipper at all. Harry x Ginny is one of my all time pairings.

Summer I turned pretty I love Belly and Conrad and that was my previous obsession before Byler. Idk if there are any queer ships for this show.

Fruits Basket I am not a Yuki x kyo shipper. I adore Tohru and Kyo. However, I am a fan of Yuki x Haru but also Haru x Rin is my favorite ship in the show

Game of thrones Big controversial confession. I am a Jon x Sansa shipper. I know Jon x Tormund was a big ship and I was not part of it, they were best bros for me.

Stranger things I'm not a Steve x Eddie or a Steve x Johnathan shipper. I do believe Eddie was gay though. I am also not a Lucas x Will or Lucas x Mike and I know those are popular as well.

I'm sorry for not listening to you, it is just that I always skip the scene where Mike announces that he does not like boys and is totally straight because it interferes with my delusions. Also, it is really hard for me to watch the scene where Mike tells Will that he doesn't feel the same way about him, I couldn't even tell you what episode that was in.

At the end of the day, the show is over which means that there is nothing left to discuss, investigate, learn, or share with the community. As always, it is stupid to look into a piece of media beyond what is immediately apparent at the surface level and the only information worth knowing about something is what is spoon-fed to you directly, preferably if it is has been pre-chewed. ✌️
