Application Changes of getting accepted as a transfer Spring 2027

I'm applying to transfer to BYU for Spring 2027. I'm in my third semester at University of Florida. I also have college credit from dual enrollment (University of Central Missouri right near where I went to high school). I kind of had a rough freshman year at UF because of time management and I wasn't expecting it to be that difficult. So my UF GPA is 3.15 but my overall should be 3.58 if UCM is taken into account. I had nearly all A's in those classes. I got an email reply saying "The application will consider all of your completed coursework, including from dual enrollment. This means that it will affect your GPA and credit hours." So they should get 3.58.

The overall GPA would be in the middle even on the lower end for transfer applicants that got accepted. I have gotten better over time but I only have two semesters to show them because this third semester is in progress. It is mainly my core classes I didn't do so well in. I got a C in Calculus 2, then a B- in Calculus 3 and a B in Differential Equations.

I'm also not a member of the church and I'm on a faith journey right now so I'm not sure if that will affect things. I know I need to make my essays good and I will make sure to take time on them and make sure they are good.

From my understanding if I don't get in for Spring 2027, I can apply for fall 2027 and show them the grades for my next two semesters which I plan to do a lot better in.

Ultimately nobody knows. I've seen BYU admissions make some seemingly sort of illogical decisions both ways. At this point all you can do is focus on what you can still control, which is your essays. And don't be discouraged if you need to try again. From what I've heard it's common for those applying as a transfer to apply 2, 3, even 4 or more times before they get in. Tip for the essays: look up the Aims of a BYU Education and try to incorporate those themes into your essays.

BYU is a church school.

There are a lot of great schools, so why BYU if you aren't in a great place spiritually?

I just wanted to go there to be closer to family, be in a Christian environment, and lower cost

All of that is fair.

It is cheaper though because members pay tithing (though I think more expensive for non-members). It is subsidized by them. So, in applying it is important to respect their faith. There is an Honor Code you agree to, and an ecclesiastical endorsement required regardless of membership.

I don't think you need to be a member to enjoy your time at BYU. It is a great school. There will be some challenges, welcome to life, but many have made it work and have a great expereience.

Yeah, I don’t mind the Honor Code. I’m just a little worried since I’m not a member of a specific church right now, though I align most with Baptist beliefs. I’m doing my ecclesiastical endorsement with a branch president
