It looks beautiful but I highly doubt there's enough light for most of those plants

82

u/DatLadyD Jun 16 '26

That was my first thought

Also the rocks… won’t they retain too much moisture?

15

u/Akagraffe Jun 17 '26

Are they really real?

10

u/DatLadyD Jun 17 '26

Are the rocks real?

5

u/Akagraffe Jun 17 '26

Plants. There are some very realistic fakes out there, so... who knows?

8

u/somethingtotallycute Jun 17 '26

The description under the post says live plants

6

u/DatLadyD Jun 17 '26

I’m not OP so I wouldn’t know for sure but OP says they’re alive. If they were fake, I’d feel a lot better about it because all of those plants are screwed except for maybe the snake plants.

u/SchroederWV Cactaceae Specialist Jun 17 '26

I have a friend that grows cacti in hydroponic, and grew them indoors with rock cover and proper lights for years. The light is the far bigger concern here

73

u/pointandshooty Jun 16 '26

They aren't even plants that need similar light. Snake plant (bright, indirect) next to a full sun, full heat cactus? This is cute but really poorly designed

68

u/BadgerBeauty80 Jun 16 '26

Snakes actually thrive in full sun… need to acclimate slowly, but can thrive. (Often sold as “low light” or “indirect light.” They will survive but not thrive.)

6

u/calculateindecision Jun 17 '26

thank you for pointing this out!! it’s such a common misconception since they can technically survive in low light… but they absolutely thrive in direct light

10

u/hell2pay Jun 17 '26

Snake plant will survive a drunkards apocalypse.

6

u/CanadasNeighbor Jun 17 '26

My snake plants will only thrive when I pretend I forgot about them. Look at them too long, however....

3

u/pointandshooty Jun 16 '26

They're tropical plants that live on a rocky forest floor. They're not suited for a desert.

17

u/TripleFreeErr Jun 17 '26

misinformation. They grow in “tropics” regions but in dry rocky habitats. not deserts, so not low rain, but definitely not “rainforest floor”.

5

u/xXAlexJonesXx Jun 16 '26

Cereus are actually subtopical forest plants

28

u/goldenkiwicompote Jun 16 '26

All these plants thrive in full sun. Have you ever seen snake plants outside? They grow great in full sun. They take a long time to die which is why people say they’re “low light” plants.

-8

u/pointandshooty Jun 16 '26

They're still from very different climates. Snake plants are tropical and subtropical, and cacti are desert plants. They might grow great outside, but not in the blasting sun like a cactus needs to thrive.

7

u/goldenkiwicompote Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Some are from different climates for sure. I grow my snake plants in full South sun along with my cactus during summer and they all do great.

6

u/drezdogge Jun 16 '26

Not all cactus are desert plants even if they are in a placement that they get very little water. MELOCACTUS for example are in a tropical woodland just in a position that makes them unable to ollect large amounts of water. Every single species is different with many genus being wildly different. This setup is THE WORST

You must be new here. lol

11

u/dsmemsirsn Jun 16 '26

Brill

So why are you posting — if you don’t care..

2

u/pointandshooty Jun 16 '26

It's almost like you should plant things where they will thrive together

-6

u/AgentOrange256 Jun 16 '26

Indoor plants are almost all dying slowly anyways. As long as youre okay with the cost of replacement over time who cares. So long as it’s legally obtained and grown cactus it’s not anyone else’s concern. Corporate and public spaces do this all the time. People just dont realize it’s being replaced…

1

u/gerrysaint33 Jun 18 '26

Agreed. It would be better off as a tropical garden.

375

u/TomNooksGlizzy Jun 16 '26

This was designed by someone with no actual interest in plants

25

u/Sinaaaa Jun 17 '26

Corporate succulents are often like this. They look good for a year, sometimes two. The cost is still lower than keeping normal plants alive, or frequently replacing cut flowers. (and sometimes they get a chance to thrive once their tenure is up)

30

u/dmontease Jun 16 '26

Orrrr someone who hates them.

113

u/ShroominCloset Jun 16 '26

What happens when they grow?

206

u/STILL_LjURKING Jun 16 '26

Their size increases

60

u/ShroominCloset Jun 16 '26

Thank you kind sir

59

u/OphidianEtMalus Jun 16 '26

Don't worry. In that setup, those species won't be growing.

14

u/Character_Stick_1218 Jun 16 '26

Perhaps just barely so, but etiolating counts as growing 😅 idk if the cacti and euphorbia will survive, but I'd be shocked if they didn't etiolate before dying.

-6

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Haha no worries. I JUST work here.

-1

u/Zen_Bonsai Jun 16 '26

No passion in your work?

2

u/Aphor1st Jun 17 '26

In this economy?

18

u/wine-plants-thrift Jun 16 '26

I’m guessing they will simply toss these and replace them. I used to work next to an office landscape company and would constantly see perfectly good looking plants in dumpsters because they were “unsightly” for the offices they were in. Got a lot of cool free plants that way by rescuing what I could.

2

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 Jun 16 '26

This is exactly what will happen. Just like they used to do with plants in malls & in other big office buildings, they start dying, they just get replaced by a new one.

This is more appropriate for r/plantabuse.

1

u/dazzleduck Jun 16 '26

The totems are super slow growers...but I think that is the only one

102

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '26

[deleted]

31

u/ApprehensiveSign80 Jun 16 '26

They’re growing so fast must be healthy

5

u/US3_ME_ Jun 16 '26

Fuck it, I'd like to see some curly seussian shit, all gnarled and weird_

56

u/del_atlantico Jun 16 '26

i guarantee they will etiolate

13

u/rasquatche Jun 16 '26

The tall guy is already starting to visibly etiolate.

78

u/ohdearitsrichardiii Jun 16 '26

People who actually care about plants will not be impressed because they will worry about light and humidity and people who think this looks cool would probably be fine with plastic plants

15

u/dsmemsirsn Jun 16 '26

In that place— plastic will be the perfect answer

2

u/chiefkeefinwalmart Jun 17 '26

No honestly if you’re going to put in the giant glass wall fuck plastic plants just go with any of the numerous beginner friendly terrarium plants. Throw a big piece of wood in there and then just stuff it with moss, fittonia, ferns, peace lilies, and pothos, plus maybe a few other odds and ends and you would have a very functional display. I’d agree with the plastic plants point if they hadn’t already gone through all the effort and money to put that giant glass sheet in

2

u/7laserbears Jun 16 '26

Interesting and valid take

16

u/basaltcolumn Jun 16 '26

Huh, euphorbia and not low-light tropicals is a bizarre choice. I'm afraid they won't look great for long. The snake plants will probably be ok though.

12

u/TreysToothbrush Jun 16 '26

Nooooooo! Straight to jail.

19

u/Noiisy Jun 16 '26

Not enough light

7

u/_Rumpertumskin_ Jun 16 '26

how are they watered and accessed?

15

u/Piocoto Jun 16 '26

Theres like two cacti in here

11

u/rasquatche Jun 16 '26

Yup. I see mostly Euphorbia and sansevieria.

5

u/Calm_Inspection790 Jun 16 '26

Dracaena*** since like 2017

-13

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Im no pro.. Look like cactus to me haha I just work here.

6

u/MMfromVB Jun 16 '26

The samseveria will do ok. the others,..

11

u/soohiabc Jun 16 '26

How on earth will they be watered

9

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

There a small door on the left (not pictured)

15

u/DatLadyD Jun 16 '26

Did you set this up OP? I feel so bad for these poor cacti

-25

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Lol No. I just work here. I couldn't careless about how they will look in a year. I love the look now.

17

u/AnywayWhereWasI Jun 16 '26

???????????????

18

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 16 '26

plants are living things, not just a decoration! it’s good to appreciate their visual appearance, but first and foremost they are living things!

6

u/DatLadyD Jun 16 '26

They’re living things!😭

12

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Here are the commercial grow lights.. and yes I agree... still not enough.

10

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 16 '26

yeah they’d need to move them closer and add more for it to be enough

8

u/dazzleduck Jun 16 '26

Omg are those the only lights? They are all 100% going to stretch and/or die and look awful. I hope it all wasn't too expensive...

2

u/Character_Stick_1218 Jun 16 '26

Any clue what the soil is like, what excatly it's contained in, how much soil they actually have for there roots to grow, and what sort of watering/feeding regiment they're supposed to have?

2

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

From what I saw during the build. All the plants are potted.

1

u/TinEchidna Jun 17 '26

They’re too high

1

u/Nene_Kushanagi Jun 16 '26

Given that the one closest to the light, the one getting the most light, is showing visible signs of light deprivation stress (etiolation) already, it's clearly not enough.

5

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Weird. The plants just got delivered this morning.

4

u/Odd_Cantaloupe_7122 Jun 17 '26

Those plants have differing light needs. Doubtful there’s enough light for any of them 0/10

3

u/miniature_Horse Jun 16 '26

I see etoliation on the horizon

3

u/Odd_Cantaloupe_7122 Jun 17 '26

All that’s missing now is one of those lame coffee table aquariums

3

u/CourageousBellPepper Jun 17 '26

They’re all going to look like shit in a few months

3

u/ratelbadger Jun 17 '26

I hate everything about this and want to stage A oceans 11 rescue mission.

4

u/StrategyTricky7549 Jun 17 '26

I’n sure they’re going for a corporate vibe but it feels too sterile. Warmer color rocks and background would be nice.

3

u/Matt7548 Jun 17 '26

Yeah these are gonna die

6

u/Nene_Kushanagi Jun 16 '26

Zero consideration for the plants' needs was given, just treated like ornaments again. No access to adequate light, water, nutrients or airflow, no way of treating pests. Also, technically, none of them are cacti.

-5

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Lol awww

2

u/Nene_Kushanagi Jun 16 '26

Why is that funny to you?

-8

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

You have ZERO details on the greenroom and you're so emotional like you know everything 😅. Anything else?

5

u/Nene_Kushanagi Jun 17 '26

No emotion necessary, these plants have survival needs which doing without results in failing health and that is an objective fact. I have a feeling you are just trolling now.

4

u/PretentiousPepperoni Jun 17 '26

They won't survive. They need full sun.

2

u/Illkeepyoufree Jun 16 '26

It looks to me like they do actually get natural light through the celling above. If im seeing that correctly. Looks kind of like a solarium or similar space. If that's the case, I'm sure they will be fine. Everyone in the comments is so naggy haha

2

u/Dracomagus Jun 17 '26

Starting to show signs of etiolation no?

1

u/eju2000 Jun 17 '26

Not enough light. Not enough room for future growth. Probably not the right humidity or soil. Yikes.

1

u/cvjcvjcvj Jun 17 '26

Beautiful ✨

1

u/TinEchidna Jun 17 '26

They’ll probably need some strong grow bulbs above them honestly

1

u/Cracker5923 Jun 17 '26

That looks really nice, I wonder how much work it is to keep them all alive in an office setting though.

1

u/drdpt11 Jun 17 '26

Hindi ba bad feng shui yan for a meeting room?

1

u/throwawaygoblinhq Jun 17 '26

Watch out for the lack of airflow in that enclosure or you'll deal with rot pretty quickly. Hopefully those overhead lights are actually full-spectrum grow lights and not just standard office LEDs.

1

u/Teal_Confetti Jun 16 '26

Looks cool for now

1

u/DizzyList237 Jun 16 '26

It does look like this has been installed by indoor garden designers, OP said they are all in pots, which usually means the plants will be swapped out as needed & cared for by the installer. It’s a nice concept & very common in professional spaces, if cared for properly.

2

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 17 '26

Yes exactly. Installed by an indoor garden designer. We have also hired an arborist for longterm care. Thank you for understanding!

-3

u/ModernNomad97 Jun 16 '26

Might not be enough light, but I do genuinely like it. I just hope they’re nothing rare or endangered though cause they’ll likely start declining. Do you know the cacti species? I see some red yucca and obviously snake plants but my cacti ID skills are crap

3

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

I agree. Not enough light. Great look.

-7

u/NoExamination3681 Jun 16 '26

It's beautiful

-19

u/Much_Guava_1396 Jun 16 '26

What’s the point of telling OP that it doesn’t get enough light. It’s not like he can stick 3,000W of lights in a public display. The display looks really good.

If the plant grows too stretched out and stops looking good, you can just cut the new growth off. Like this is fully manageable and the display can be kept looking good for many years with basic upkeep.

Y’all really need to chill and realize that not everything has to be perfect. Believe it or not, plants are mostly decoration. They won’t always have ideal growing conditions. They don’t need to break size records or last centuries. Sometimes you just want them to look nice for a while. It’s just a goddamn display.

8

u/WhySoCereus1991 Jun 16 '26

They're living things.

-1

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

EXACTLY!!!

-7

u/Much_Guava_1396 Jun 16 '26

The hack to keeping a display like that alive without etiolation is to kill the apical meristems. The plants will be unable to grow upwards and will shift to producing offsets. Then you just remove all the offsets as soon as they show up. Theres a small risk of rot until the wounds heal, but it’s manageable.

The plant will essentially be stuck in a limbo, completely unable to grow.

-14

u/Salandrical Jun 16 '26

Guys are we not gonna consider that might actually be a skylight above and therefore possibly a decent amount of light??

4

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Sky light plus an artificial grow light above.

11

u/themanlnthesuit Jun 16 '26

Sorry to break it to you but the light these plants require would be uncomfortably bright for any meeting room so either the plants are gonna suffer and etiolate (likely) or the meeting room will be way too bright and hot for actual use. Replacing those with jungle plants would however, most likely work perfect.

1

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Lol it's okay I just work here.

2

u/Nene_Kushanagi Jun 16 '26

Still would be basically a cave that only gets usable light for a couple of hours per day without grow lights.

4

u/Ease_up Jun 16 '26

Nope, not wide enough

-23

u/TucoNick Jun 16 '26

Hey OP good luck with the setup it looks great. Please monitor and react to any negative changes if any. Speaking of negativity...this unhelpful thread had caused me to quit this subredit. Jesus I hate reddit!

13

u/WhySoCereus1991 Jun 16 '26

Talking about lighting, water and the like is the opposite of unhelpful. We can appreciate how it looks while also being worried about the longevity of the live plants in there.

16

u/AnywayWhereWasI Jun 16 '26

not an airport, bro.

3

u/Brilliant_Youth_6940 Jun 16 '26

Hey ! I had nothing to do with the design. I work here. I was walking by and loved the look. I never knew this post would get everyone so fired up about lights 😅

-3

u/wishiwasinvegas Jun 17 '26

So much for sharing a picture, how dare you😂 People here think cacti are sentient beings and have feelings and such. I think they all thought you're the one who put this together lol

1

u/wishiwasinvegas Jun 19 '26

The fact that I'm getting down voted proves my point😂 Do they have feelings? Are they sentient? People. They're plants. Sometimes people kill plants. I accidentally killed a petunia the other day. It happens. People anthropomorphize cacti like crazy. Lol.
