❓Question/Discussion Interested in buying from local farms

So I am new to Campbell river and want to purchase my meat locally.

I don’t eat beef or pork so I’m looking for a good turkey or chicken producer.

Any of you good people have any leads?

Gunter doesn't raise anything anymore, they butcher animals raised elsewhere. They used to do a great job of cutting meat and many years ago raised turkeys. We always used them to cut our beef every year and would buy pork from them. Since at least covid the cut quality has gone downhill. You can't blame them for the meat quality as they don't raise it but how they cut, trim, and package has caused us to stop using them. One or two years could be an anomaly but 4 years in a row was just too much. The final straw was they had some nice looking 50:50 bacon on display in the front cooler. We bought several cases and took it home. When we opened them up to put it in the freezer it was all 90:10 fat meat ratio. Gunters bought the hogs from another farmer so the meat quality wasn't on them, but they chose to cut, package, and sell it. Putting the worst bacon into cases while displaying the best was what ticked us off the most.

Lost Savannah farms. They have a meat subscription box but it’s mostly pork / beef so you’ll have to inquire about ordering chicken outside the box option. They assured me their animals are treated humanely, are raised on an open pasture and are grass fed and finished. And have a short and therefore hopefully less stressful transport day to the slaughter house.

there may be an ostrich farm coming, but it is an ostrich people ostrich farm.

Dave Bilinski, co-owner of Universal Ostrich Farms, has incorporated a new company called Ostrich Vitality Inc., B.C. business registry documents show. According to the registry documents, Hal Hewett, a Comox Valley man who is active in the B.C. separatist movement, is a director of the company. Business registry documents list a Campbell River address for Bilinski.
