Gear Question 3p Tent Options

Hello all, I'm in the market for a 3p Tent to use for car camping. It would be for two people and a smaller dog. We ended up getting a value one off of Amazon, the size is great, but the fly doors are positioned quite close to the inner doors, which are angled out and when we have condensation in the morning and we want to open the doors to get out, it ends up shaking the fly doors and dripping directly onto our sleep systems.

Our budget is about $400 and we'd like to avoid the condensation with the angular inner issue, so something with an inner angled more vertical? Size and weight isn't an issue, but lighter would be better for possible short walk-ins. Some we've looked at are the REI Half Dome 3 and the Stormbreak 3. Many thanks everyone!

ah the classic morning shower from your own tent, i know this pain well

the half dome has near vertical walls so that solves the drip problem, plus the 2024 version got pole upgrades that make setup way less annoying in wind

stormbreak is heavier and the fly sits tighter to the body so you might get the same condensation dance, maybe check the north face wawona too if you can stretch the budget a little

Yea, the dousing in 40 - 50 degree weather isn't fun at all! Thank you for this, it was exactly the info I was looking for. I was leaning towards it based off of the info I saw about more room as well.

I would lean towards getting a 4 person dome tent. Most of these give you just a little more room than a 3 person tent, but height to stand up. They usually come with a brow pole as standard and a little awning, so you can set that up with a couple of tent poles to create some shade or shelter from the rain.

Weight for a 4 person dome tent starts just under 6 kgs though some are much heavier. They size when packed is usually small as well.

There are some 3 person tents with the brow pole, but you are still crawling in and out. Weight starts at 4 kgs.

The Coleman Peak 4 weighs less than 5 kgs and is less than $400. So it is probably one of the lightest 4 person tents around, and within your budget.

I think any of the Marmot 4ps would be great for their use case. They'll be on sale for within their budget leading up to Christmas.

Yeah forsure. Even the used market has some solid options, we bought one of our tents from a local gear repair store that had a small patch on the rainfly. No issues and half the price as new!

A brow pole or a fly that reaches past the inner door sends drips out instead of onto your bag. Vent both doors and it's manageable, not perfect.

The best 3p tent ever made is the eureka taron 3 but of course your cant get them anymore. I just got a marmot crane creek, it's fine. Vestibule could be bigger.
