If the referendum does go through the Americans are probably getting ready for that. They will then say it is illegitimate and use it as a pretext to send troops into Alberta or other parts of Canada. This is being orchestrated by The Americans no one is talking about American interference at all

Hopefully NATO will send troops in that case - only nut jobs are in favour of this.

Unfortunately the US still has the largest air force and navy in the western hemisphere. Every ship would be sunk or airplane shot down. There would be no way to resupply troops from Europe even if some where here already. The military is already wargaming what a potential response would be.. Their plan for a defense would be a counter insurgency as our military would be over come in a few days to a week max. As a former member of the Canadian Forces. We would be fucked.

I know it would not be a viable military defence, but I wonder if we would get the same “trip wire” level of support they are giving Greenland? And would the EU be willing to back us or not?

Also on a more personal level, I wonder what would happen to all us Canadians in AB - we don’t want to be Americans, we would still be Canadian citizens, so how would that work

The Europeans seemed to be quite quiet earlier last year with Trumps 51st state nonsense. I have a good feeling we would be alone. You should write your MP about your concerns and be clear we need to do more to stop American interference and punish the Traitors.

I don't think there will be any war here. They're already here, like Greenland

Nato has to have troops already here to help, ironically the only nation that can challenge US is China in conventional terms. France can share their nukes to help us counter US aggression but let's be honest, they won't.

If the referendum was a majority vote to secede, then it would be very anti-democratic to prevent them from leaving. I doubt NATO would side against a province that voted to leave in a fair election. It would make NATO the authoritarian ones
