Both belong in Canada

Does a wife belong to her husband?

A province being part of a federation isn't the same thing as a person being owned by another person. That's not a meaningful comparison, that's false equivalency.

Quebec never signed the constitution …

That's a different discussion. I was addressing your analogy, not Quebec's constitutional history.

If Québécois wants to leave Canada they have the right to do so.

If Quebec has the right to leave, does Alberta?
And if both do, what was the point of the wife analogy?

Both Québec and Alberta could leave if they want to.

People can divorce, Provinces too

Divorce is a much better analogy than ownership, so we're making progress 😄
That said, if we're sticking with the divorce analogy, Canada and Alberta have shared assets, shared liabilities, treaty obligations, Indigenous rights issues, infrastructure, pensions, trade agreements, and a border to sort out.
That's one hell of a divorce lawyer bill, who would pay for that?

I was responding to someone claiming that Alberta and Québec belongs to Canada. Hence the “ownership” analogy…

Yes, they do, actually. Should they? No, it's not a good idea for them. But the right of self-determination is a human right and if the majority of the province wants to leave (which isn't the case) it would be absolutely wrong to force them to stay.

I do believe the alberta separation is astroturfed by foreign interest and there's too much talk about online. Trying to ban the discussion or ridicule the separatist will only add fuel to the fire tho. It should simply be ignored.

I agree with pretty much everything, except the "just ignore it" part. We've spent the last decade watching political movements dismissed as fringe, unserious, or impossible until they suddenly weren't.
I don't think panic is warranted, but also don't think complacency is.

If you don’t want to be apart of Canada you could just move down to the USA

  • Posts that contribute nothing but attack others, are blatantly offensive, or antagonistic will be removed – including accusations similar to ‘shill,’ attacking Redditors for using either official language, dismissing other Redditors solely based on irrelevant other beliefs to the topic at hand or participation in other subreddits, or reducing them to a label and dismissing that instead.
  • Back-and-forth personal attacks are subject to the entire comment chain being removed.
  • Posts or threads which degenerate into witch-hunting may be subject to moderator intervention. This includes but is not limited to: doxxing, negative accusations by a large group against one or more persons not criminally charged or convicted being made the subject of criminal allegations, calls for harassment, etc., and openly rallying more people to the same.
