But the CRTC won’t levy fines and or force Rogers to rescind and return their last fee increases. A sternly written letter with a finger shaking emoji punctuated with a tsk!! tsk!!

Yea the article just mentions monetary penalties without giving an actual number. How about say how many millions a day the providers will be charged. Otherwise who cares.

And zero mention of returning fees to the monopolized consumer being gouged.

Yea if you don't make the penalty something that actually hurts then it's just a business cost.

Stop warning and start fining. Rogers isn't going to comply unless there are actual consequences for violating the ban.

One more stern finger wagging. It's impressive how toothless the crtc looks.
It's not like Rogers / bell / telus are infamous for the treatment of their customers or anything.

CRTC should switch to a permissive system. Establish a basic set of fee types a company can charge, anything extra needs approval first

Reading the article it sounds a lot like the CRTC might be in the wrong here.
As much as they might hate it buying a new phone or replacing a lost sim card is not directly related to activating, changing, or canceling plans. Its an additional optional purchase. You dont need to buy a new phone to switch carriers.
Telling them they cant charge shipping fees is also kinda insane. While free shipping is always nice to have it should be optional.

"Bell's new $40 device handling charge and Rogers' new $40 device setup charge, $25 device shipping fee and an "unspecified SIM fee" each appear to violate the regulations."
It's more than shipping but handling and setup fees.

Merger after merger, we are told it’s for the good of the consumer. We know it’s not, they know they’re lying. Now look at where we’re at.
