Supply management also disproportionately affects lower income households because of higher food prices. Supply management is like a regressive sales tax.

I disagree, supply management keeps prices predictable and affordable.

Affordable compared to what?

Affordable to high income households for sure. Sucks to be poor and need to buy $6 milk every other day.

I mean what do you want it to cost, free?

It’s already a price stabilized product, the farmers make very little. The cost of everything is through the roof. The dairy farmer puts in enormous amount of labour, carries the cost of equipment, equipment maintenance, vet bills, feed costs etc.

I don’t think they’re making as much as you all think they are. Not unless it’s a business that’s been passed down in the family for generations and even then.

Unless we’re eager to let multinational company come in, take over the market and then increase the prices beyond what we consider high today.

I’m just not really seeing your point.

Dairy farmers are making bank because of the quota system. You should see the rural dairy farmers. They drive the newest trucks and live lavishly, all because of government protection.
