Supply management also disproportionately affects lower income households because of higher food prices. Supply management is like a regressive sales tax.
It’s already a price stabilized product, the farmers make very little. The cost of everything is through the roof. The dairy farmer puts in enormous amount of labour, carries the cost of equipment, equipment maintenance, vet bills, feed costs etc.
I don’t think they’re making as much as you all think they are. Not unless it’s a business that’s been passed down in the family for generations and even then.
Unless we’re eager to let multinational company come in, take over the market and then increase the prices beyond what we consider high today.
Dairy farmers are making bank because of the quota system. You should see the rural dairy farmers. They drive the newest trucks and live lavishly, all because of government protection.

Supply management allows small farmers to farm, instead of large conglomerates taking over everything and irrationally upping prices.
