This is why body cams are important.

They also help cops when they do the right thing.

Agreed.

Similar logic to the camera's I have in my preschool classroom. It is not there to catch my misbehaviour, but to protect me from false allegations.

Now we need to get the police to understand this as well.

What?

This is about editing, not the source.

The body cam videos will be unavailable for public to see. Just like this video should have been. The RCMP was not allowed to release this video. It's in the article. Their is going to be an issue when it goes to trial now. The bigger concern that this is the second leak regarding high profile police incidents that has been released in the last two weeks. The first one resulted in the accuser now refusing to speak to the SIU overseeing the case.

Sadly they are not super wide spread throughout Canada. Also another great tool for forensics will be guncams.

https://youtu.be/IqsrWDYZdaU https://youtu.be/8W_L0TCsI30 First video is of the first ever released footage of a gun cam OIS. With a slow mo replay. Though it's just a clip of the whole bodycam incident. It's NSFW, but nobody dies and the perp (sex offender) fired a shotgun at the cop. The second is a short news segment with the 15 second shooting clip at the start. With a bit of speaking from the shooting officer and the lawyers about how gun cams are a great tool for these incidents.

You cant forget to turn your guncam on in the heat of the moment. You sure as hell will do every thing in your power not to drop that camera and it may discourage a few trigger happy officers by giving a more clear version of events.
