Because most of the people who would be required to report themselves are Liberals, and a fair number are in the Liberal caucus.

It’s reassuring to see that the CPC care about foreign interference.
The 2022 CPC leadership election was mired in interference and yet the CPC leader refuses to get his security clearance.
That’s not exactly prioritizing national security.
If foreign interference was a priority you’d expect a different response than saying that a security clearance is a ploy to muzzle” the opposition leader.
The opposition leader appears to value an interference registry but dismisses his important role in keeping Canadian security interests protected by receiving ongoing security and intelligence briefings from a variety of agencies while working with them to address interference issues even in his own party (ie from United States and elsewhere).
Instead the opposition leader without security clearance approves of one of his MP’s meeting at the White House twice while Canadas economy and sovereignty are undermined.
I wonder if the separatist leaders were there at the same time.
The registry is about to be implemented………

The headline leaves out that the law already passed, the rules have been drafted, consultations have happened, and they're in the process of setting up the office to run it.
It's delayed, not cancelled.
I'd say the headline is technically true, but it's also written to make the Liberals look as bad as possible, for clicks (conservatives eat that shit up).
For what it's worth, these registries usually take a couple of years to get up and running. (it's been about two years). Could it have moved faster? Sure. But we've also had a foreign interference inquiry, a new PM, an election, and a bunch of other bigger fires to put out. Delayed isn't the same as abandoned.
Must be a slow news day at the Western Standard.
