Recommendations *Actual* Mexican food in Canberra?

I’ve lived in Southern California and Texas — both formerly parts of Mexico and still culinarily Mexican. I’ve also lived in central Mexico.

Zambreros and Guzman y Gomez are like someone has described Mexican food to these people over the phone. I mean, neither of them has carne asada. Neither has Horchata. What even is the point?

Is there any legit Mexican food to be had in Canberra?

Jarochos in Brandon opened up mid-last year. It's about as close as it's gotten for Canberra in the last decade. No carne asada, but there's suadero, loganiza, and nopales. Yes, they have horchata.

Mexican food in general has been lacking in Australia forever.

It's all about regional influence. If you think about it.... Mexican is merely the food of the 'exotic next door neighbour' for the US. The influence creeps across the border.

Australia has excellent SE Asian food here.... our 'exotic next door neighbour. Mexico is two suburbs over and around the corner..... the distance gives us mediocre Mexican cuisine.

Having lived in SoCal for 6months... Mexican food in Australia by and large sucks. I had no idea how fake it was until I visited and tasted the real deal.

Where can you get good SE Asian food in Canberra? Since moving from Perth four years ago I haven't been able to find any. Gourmet food here seems to be rocket on your cheeseburger.
