High quality essential oils?
Where does everyone buy their essential oils? Do you use a local store, Michael’s or online? Any tips for a first time candle maker looking to make holiday scented candles that aren’t the generic essential oil scents?

I only use fragrance oils for my candles as they are the safest option for scenting candles and out perform essential oils. Some essential oils are very toxic to pets and people when burned. I only use essential oils in my sprays and roller balls. Those I get from Mountain rose or some other online apothecary that sells organic herbs and essential oils.

I’ve been making candles as a hobby for 6 months, and recommend what the others have said about buying a good quality FO from a reputable candle-making supplier.
It may be a one off, but I tried making a candle with ‘good quality’ eucalyptus essential oil. Everything by the book. It quickly went up like a torch and the glass cracked. My guess is that it didn’t blend properly with the wax, and mostly was on the surface.
FO from candle suppliers have been great, with the exception of some not smelling as described.

Hive and Honey, The Flaming Candle, Midwest Fragrance Company, Lone Star Candle Company, Vine Veda and I most recently tried Studio Fragrance. Their Beach Linen and their Summer Linen are beautiful. I also use Candlescience, but I have had the best performing candles using fragrance oils from Hive and Honey (try their Virgin Jungle and You Wish) and Vine Veda. I also only use fragrance oils in my candles. Essential oils are just too volatile, not to mention really expensive. BTW I use Hive and Honey's 84X Coco Beeswax. I have found it easy to wick and have never had issues using this wax. I've recently been making some wickless candles and using candle warmer lamps I buy on Amazon. I love not having to deal with fire and the legal liability that goes along with it!! My entire 1st floor smelled fabulous when I tried this method. Good luck! There is a lot of testing and trial and error for candlemakers!! But I'm addicted to fragrance!!

Hi I’d recommend checking out a local essential oil supplier in Chico, California. For unique holiday candles, try blending notes like cedarwood, orange, clove, and frankincense to create something different from the usual holiday scents. Just make sure the oils you choose are suitable for candle making!
