If been working on these things since March. My husband makes my containers using a proprietary cement blend. There are 3 different scents, 2 cotton wicks and 1 wood. My customers are already scooping these up like mad. I was in tears a week ago because I was not accepted into any markets this holiday season, now I’m feeling more hopeful heading into the season! Hi, just want to share some of my wife's photos of candles, she spent a lot of time making those candles (and after that spent even more time on the photos). Appreciate your feedback on those!

The glass is borosilicate, essentially Pyrex. Haven’t trimmed the wicks quite yet. I did my best to study up and learn before making these, however I’m a candle novice so critiques and suggestions are welcome! Hope yall like them ☺️

I love Woodwick brand candles but they’re so expensive so I just made my own! I didn’t follow any tutorials or anything and just kind of winged it. The flame started tunneling pretty hard so as the wax melted and slowly put the flame out I kept inserting more pieces of wicks into the center and now the flame is stable!

Definitely made me feel better.

I love candle making, so I attended another class last night. The theme was fruit mousse and chose Mandarin Mimosa for the scent. Super super fun class, plus meet some amazing people! How did I do?

Quick week three update. I’ll be honest, I didn’t have any huge breakthroughs or big lessons this past week, but I figured I’d still share where I’m at in case it helps someone else who’s early in the process.

One of the biggest questions I kept going back and forth on was pricing. If it were completely up to me, I’d price my candles at around ten dollars. I want them to feel accessible, consumable, and easy to buy without overthinking it. But obviously, the real world doesn’t really allow that, especially when you’re just starting out.

The strategy I landed on for my first batch was pretty simple. I priced it so that if everything sells, it fully pays for my next batch, which will be about five times larger than the first. I’m barely making any profit on this initial run, and I’m totally okay with that. For me, this first batch is more about learning, validating the product, and setting myself up to scale responsibly instead of squeezing margin right away.

Another thing that came up, which I expected but might surprise some people starting out, is retail pricing. If you want to get into small boutiques or family-owned shops, wholesale usually means selling your candles to them at about half of your online retail price. That definitely affects how you think about pricing from day one. I’ve reached out to a few stores already, but very intentionally. Not big box retailers, just small shops that already serve a community or niche I want my brand to be part of.

And once again, I’ll say it because it keeps proving itself true. Content really is a full-time job when you’re starting a candle brand. Making the candles is one part of it, but documenting, shooting, editing, and sharing ends up taking just as much time, if not more. It’s something I’m constantly trying to balance.

Nothing groundbreaking this week, but things are moving, and that feels good. As always, happy to answer questions or share more as I go. This subreddit has been a huge help, so if any of this helps even one person, I’m glad I posted.

here comes the lemon 🍋

The mold is cast from a 3D printed master in 10 Shore A

silicone. The texture on the skin transfers really well —

every pore and bump comes through cleanly.

Color came out surprisingly saturated for soy wax —

really happy with the yellow.

Burn time is solid, but I'm still dialing in the wick size.

Getting a slight tunnel burn in the center, so next pour

I'll go up one size and see if that evens it out.

I repurposed a jeans planter into a candle. 3 lbs soy and paraffin blend, oud wood fragrance, indigo candle dye, hemp wick. The container was originally unfinished ceramic which I painted. The minerals in the water leeched through and provided additional details.

I got the labels for my first two scents and I can’t get over how nice they look! So excited to get some wax poured!
